THERE’S nothing more annoying than dousing yourself in perfume only for the smell to have completely evaporated by the time you reach your destination.
You could take your fragrance with you, but let’s face it, it’s a faff to carry – not to mention spritzing yourself a dozen times a day will end up costing you a fortune given how quickly you’ll get through bottles.
But savvy beauty buffs on TikTok have come up with a nifty 1p trick that will make even the cheapest perfumes stick around all day – and you’ll likely already have the magic ingredient.
Stunning influencer Emma Mac shared the trick with her 385k followers, telling them “this is how to smell so good 24/7”.
“All you need is Vaseline,” she explains, taking out a tub of petroleum jelly.
You can pick up a huge tub of the jelly from supermarkets for around £1, making it a super cost-effective purchase.

“I put a tiny bit where you would normally put perfume, so on the wrists,” she explains, before also applying a little to her neck.
“Then get your favourite scent… and you spray it on the Vaseline, and I don’t know what it is, but it makes your scent last so long.”
The clip amassed a huge 254k likes, with viewers flocking to the comments to share their love for the simple tip.
“Omg I’m doing that from now on,” one fan wrote.

“Guys, it works for every scent because scent holds better in oil,” another user vouched in the comments.
The science behind the viral tip is that Vaseline is essentially an oil, so it will bind with the “oil phase” within the perfume.
That means it acts as a fixative for the perfume on the skin, which in turn makes the scent stick to you more.
According to research by scientists, Vaseline also acts as a kind of “sponge” by absorbing the perfumes oil and releasing them slowly over time better than skin can.
One study found that the cheap hack could in fact make even a light eau de toilette last for double the length of time – and it doesn’t tamper with the aroma at all!
Some people also suggest putting a layer of Vaseline over where you’ve applied a spritz of fragrance, which works by creating a barrier that reduces its evaporation.
