It’s bright, bold and reminds us of our favourite fruit – what’s not to love?
Over the past few months, we’ve seen neutral tones dominate, with everyone and their mum dressing like an oat milk latte. From Jacquemus shirts to baby bedrooms, creams, beiges and browns are everywhere we turn. And this summer, it’s time for a bit of colour to come back into our worlds – and wardrobes – before we all morph into Mad Max-esque sand dwellers.
While we love the sophistication of the neutral look, we’re now after a bit of fun, and this mood-enhancing tone may be just the ticket. Last year we raved about how black dresses were the often overlooked summer style staple, and this year it’s all about orange.

We are all ready for an injection of zing into our everyday wardrobes – to lift our moods, offset our tans, and make us feel like we’ve been somewhere more exotic than the local park. And just like the fruit, there’s a variety of shades to try, from cool orange to deep, rich tangerine tones, and we love it.
Judging by our social media feeds, some of our favourite fashion influencers clearly feel the same about summer’s favourite hue with everything from bikinis to baseball caps and more cropping up on our phones.
The fashion community has given it the green light, or rather the orange light, as the colour of the summer, demoting Gen-Z yellow and Kermit green to the colour of yesteryear. Maintaining yellow’s optimistic outlook and joy-inducing tendencies, orange is bringing a sense of euphoria to our wardrobes and we are here for it.

HOW TO WEAR ORANGE
Think of orange as a neutral
Swap it with one of the black or grey pieces in your wardrobe and you won’t go wrong. Try an orange maxi skirt instead of your classic black and pair with a simple white T-shirt and trainers. Or go bold and team both a tangerine top and bottoms together to really pack a punch.
Take baby steps
If you’re not quite ready to let go of the neutral tones just yet, start off small. Give it a go for a poolside chic vibe with an orange bikini and leopard print shirt. There’s no better time to experiment with fashion than on holiday, after all.
Try accessorising
Not quite ready to make head-to-toe orange your go-to look? Then ease yourself in with an accessory. An orange bag makes for a seasonal change to your classic black or tan options. Or try a pair of orange shoes to elevate your look from tepid to scorching hot summer in the best way possible.
