Tiara outings have been few and far between in the Royal Family in recent years due to the pandemic. But Buckingham Palace has announced King Charles will host his first state visit as monarch for the President and First Lady of South Africa from November 22 to 24. William and Kate, as the Prince and Princess of Wales, are likely to join the King and Queen Consort to assist with the evening engagements. Here are the tiaras Camilla and Kate could choose for the occasion.
Kate, Princess of Wales
To date, the Princess of Wales has worn three tiaras from the royal collection in public.
Kate’s first tiara she ever wore was the Cartier Halo Tiara, a demure diadem that hasn’t been seen since her wedding day in 2011.
On occasion, Kate has worn the Lotus Flower Tiara that was beloved by the late Queen Mother.
But her go-to tiara has long been the Lover’s Knot Tiara, a pearl diadem which Princess Diana famously adored throughout her time in the Royal Family.
Kate may stick with the precedent of the last decade and wear the Lover’s Knot Tiara for the state occasion next month.
However, she could choose another diadem from the royal vaults to mark her new role as Princess of Wales.
Her predecessor as Princess of Wales also adored the Spencer Tiara, but this is not a royal heirloom.

Queen Consort Camilla
The Queen Consort has been pictured wearing three tiaras over the years, one being a Shand family jewel.
The Cubitt-Shand Tiara belonged to Camilla’s grandmother Sonia Keppel, whose mother Alice Keppel was King Edward VII’s mistress.
Like the late Princess Diana wore her family’s Spencer Tiara to royal engagements, Camilla often wore her family tiara to events as Duchess of Cornwall.
But now she is Queen Consort, she may wish to wear only diadems from the royal collection.
In the past, Camilla has worn the Delhi Durbar Tiara that was created for her husband’s great-grandmother, Queen Mary.
She has also frequently worn the Greville Tiara that was given to the Queen Mother, a honeycomb diamond design made by Boucheron.
Camilla could wear either of these pieces in November, or she could opt for another diadem as Queen Consort.
What other tiaras are in the royal collection?
There are countless tiaras the Royal Family can choose from, but the Queen’s most worn pieces included the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara, the Grand Duchess Vladimir Tiara and Queen Alexandra’s Kokoshnik Tiara.
Camilla could wear any of these as a tribute to the late Queen, but she tends to wear jewellery items the Queen Mother adored, so she may follow in her footsteps with her next choice of diadem.
The Queen Mother often wore the Oriental Circlet Tiara, Queen Mary’s Fringe Tiara and the Lotus Flower Tiara, among others.
