We got a new council house and totally transformed it in two years… the garden gave the worst impression for a start | The Sun

A COUPLE who swapped their council house back in 2021 have left people stunned by showing how they turned their new property into a "home".

They posted a TikTok video on their Mr and Mrs West account, after moving into a three-bedroom Housing Association house.

"Council house swap..  before and after," they wrote in the caption.

The video began with a look at the front door, which they'd changed from black to white, before showing how they'd given their staircase an update with a runner down the middle instead of being fully carpeted.

Their bathroom went from blue to black and white and monochrome chic, as they added: "We swapped in 2021, not realising how much we needed to get sorted to make it feel like home."

The front room was less than aesthetically pleasing until they gave it a makeover with grey sofas and chic neutral home furnishings.

"Making our council house our home  -before and after," they captioned the video.

The couple aren't done with their house transformation yet though.

They took to TikTok to share another video which showed how they'd updated their front garden.

"I hated this part of the house so much (didn’t give off a good first impression) but needed the house sorting first," she wrote.

She added that it took "three days" to tidy it up and paint it, and she loves "the end result".

"Brilliant job, done well," one person commented on the video.

"I might just have to do a swap," another mused.

"Definitely go for it, all we cared about was extra space & right location," the woman replied.

"I did a swap 5 years ago and was the BEST thing I’ve ever done," someone else commented.

"The house needed so much work but it’s our forever home."
