For a 16-foot fence homeowners will need two treated eight-inch four by fours, four treated eight-inch two by fours and one six-inch two by four.

These will be used for the main skeleton of the fence including the posts.

You will also need 35 treated fence pickets, two 50-pound bags of quickrete, one box of 3.5-inch screws, and a box of two-inch screws.

In terms of tools, you will need a post hole digger, a long level, a bucket, and a drill with a star bit.

For Steph's fence she only needed two posts to be placed in the ground.

This is the first step to construction – deciding where the posts should be placed.

She explained that she was using two posts with eight footboards between each one.

The clip then showed how to dig a hole into the ground of the post, and Steph advised to "dig down half the height of the fence that you're building."

She and her partner decided to connect their fence to the house and so used two sunk four-by-fours.

The DIY expert admitted that the hole digging takes a lot of strength and time and "is the worst part."

"The deeper you go, the more sturdier your post will be," she explained.

For her fence, she ensured the hole was around two and a half to three feet deep.

They then sank in both of the four-by-four posts and filled the holes with quickrete and water while one person held the post straight.

It then needs to set for around 15 to 20 minutes so the post is firmly in place.

"We secured the cross-posts and then started to secure the pickets," Steph explained.

After the "fun part" was over she had a 16-foot privacy fence ready for painting if desired.

Viewers were shocked at the cost of the DIY fence with one commenting: "Not me just getting a quote for $7,000 for a fence."

Many TikTok users gave people handy tips for building their own fencing and even explained what they could do on a budget.

One said: "We were able to do 1/4 acre ourselves for about 4k in materials."

Another said: "Two hours?! For real? I'm building a fence this summer and I'm prepared for it to take weeks."

"Took my dad about two months in the summer heat to do about 200ft of fencing," one user replied.

Vital information was shared in the comments by another user who made a case for planning the construction in advance.

"Call 811 to locate any underground wires or pipes first," they wrote.
