What to know about Camilla's unusual stick insect brooch

As Her Majesty’s coffin made its way into Westminster Hall, King Charles III led the Royal family, with Camilla, Queen Consort, by his side.

For the poignant occasion, Camilla wore a simple black hat and dress – pairing it with a striking brooch in the shape of a stick insect.

The brooch is believed to be sentimental to the Queen Consort in that it was gifted to her by her late father, before she joined the Royal Family.

Camilla regularly wears insect shaped brooches. She often dons a pair of dragonfly brooches – one with blue wings and the other silver – which were a gift from the King.

The Queen herself also had insect brooches in her collection. During her COP26 speech, she wore a butterfly brooch, thought to be a nod to her late husband Prince Philip, as a photograph of him surrounded by the creatures was on display behind her.

Camilla teamed the stick insect brooch with a pearl necklace today – which seems to be her go to accessory for milestone occasions such as this.

The same necklace was worn when King Charles was formally given his regal name this weekend, and it also appeared in a photo released on Instagram to mark her and Charles’ 14th wedding anniversary.
