What your breakfast choice says about you: From a bacon sandwich to eggs Benedict and a healthy smoothie | The Sun

WHETHER you’re tucking into breakfast at home or in a cafe or restaurant, it’s likely you have a go-to dish that you favour above all.

But what does what you pick off of the menu say about your personality?

According to some fun new research from Bertinet Bakery – an authentic, hand-crafted sourdough brand – each dish can give a huge hint as to what you’re like as a person.

The company teamed up with Behavioural Expert and body language pro Judi James to lift the lid on the nation’s eating habits.

And whether you opt for a healthy smoothie or a more hearty bacon butty, there’s plenty to be said.

Eggs Benedict, French toast or a smoothie?

First up, Judi revealed that popular dishes, such as Eggs Benedict, avocado, French toast or even a smoothie all point to the same idea.

They explained: “You like your indulgences to look like the cool, healthy option, suggesting a slight air of superiority over the more basic toast and marmalade fans.

“Competitive and ambitious, you believe in eating for the job you want rather than the one you have.”

Toast and jam, or pastries?

On the other hand, the more simple dish of croissants or sourdough with preserves like jam and marmalade indicate a different type of make up.

They continued: “You enjoy full-on, sensory experiences that involve smell, touch and taste.

“The food itself might be simple but it’s the lingering aromas and attention that’s gone into making the bread that adds to the pleasure of the experience.”

Bacon or sausage sarnies?

But if you’d cast both of these options aside for a tasty bacon or sausage sandwich with thick slabs of fresh bread and brown sauce

They concluded: “You like ‘honest’, basic, no-frills food and have a straight-talking approach to life.”

But that wasn’t all Bertinet Bakery found out when talking to 2,000 adults in the UK – they also discovered more about their eating habits, as they encouraged Brits to make the most of breakfast in bed with their sourdough.

Competitive and ambitious, you believe in eating for the job you want rather than the one you have

Eating habits exposed:

They divided up how people tuck in to breakfast in bed into six different categories – the treater, the picnic-er, the crumber, the worker, the A-lister and the party animal.

Explaining more about each one – and what it reveals about you – Judi then started on the list.

The Treater

She said that the treater, which is when you like to make breakfast in bed for someone else, points to you being “caring and empathetic.”

She went on to say: “Your pleasure comes from making breakfast in bed as a treat for someone you love.

“You’re romantic and that rose in a vase on the tray also says you’re sensual. However, keep in mind that 12 per cent of Brits say they’re serving up breakfast in bed as an apology or because they’ve just forgotten it’s a special occasion (sound familiar?)”

The Picnic-er

Next up, Judi lifted the lid on the picnic-er, as she said: “This breakfast is a series of snacks that you lay out on top of the duvet and sit eating like a picnic.

“This behaviour shows your childlike approach to treats, where it’s the variety and the options that make it a fun experience for you. You also sit on top of the duvet, making it less about nesting and more about play.”

The Crumber

On the other hand, there’s the crumber. Judi explained: “You cook, fry, toast and top with sauces and forget plates and cutlery and you sit in your bed making a crumby, gooey mess out of the space you sleep in.

“You’re a spontaneous hedonist who lives in the moment with no real concern about potential consequences. You also don’t worry, which probably makes you very happy while annoying others who might have to share your crumby bed.

“In fact, 53 per cent of Brits find breadcrumbs in the bed annoying, followed by 37 per cent who hate getting the sheets dirty.”

The worker

Another type of breakfast eater is the worker, who doesn’t always have time to set aside for dishing up their favourite.

Judi revealed: “You eat breakfast in bed one day a week but your workaholic tendencies mean you turn your bed into your office as you do so, tapping at your laptop while you sit cross-legged sipping juice and eating smashed avocados on toast.

You’re a spontaneous hedonist who lives in the moment with no real concern about potential consequences

“This behaviour shows an inability to switch off and zone out but it also makes you feel important in a ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ kind of way.”

The A-lister

The penultimate breakfast personality is the A-lister, who is about all the finer things in life, whatever the day.

Judi pointed out: “It’s not just your tray in bed, it's the quality of the treats on it that counts for you, which means Buck’s Fizz, strawberries, fresh sourdough and maybe some chocolates.

“This is the perfect ego-stroke, reminding you exactly how special you are at least one day a week.”

And last – but by no means least – there’s the party animal, who is all about using food as fuel after a big night out.

Judi concluded: “Sunday breakfast in bed is all about healing and regeneration for you, although sitting in bed eating the cold pizza take-away leftovers from the night before is not exactly a healthy option to start the day!”
