It’s 2023 – dressing like a Mattel doll isn’t just for the girlies.
Barbiecore isn’t a new concept, and neither is Kencore for that matter.
Ever since the world first got wind of the upcoming Barbie movie the internet has been aflame, and the latest trailer has fanned those flames into a bonfire.
And with summer just around the corner, our wardrobes are crying out for some colourful Ken-like fun.
Gloria Yasein, a trend expert with FINDS, tells Metro.co.uk: ‘If there’s anything we’re taking away from this trend: don’t just settle for the trusty jeans and top combo this spring/summer.’
Emily Stott, Stylist Ambassador at Stitch Fix UK, adds that Ken’s look is less about pink than Barbie’s, and more about pastels in general ‘with hints of sugary tones and fluro-neons in masculine silhouettes.’

‘The male Mattel-created doll has a style of his own so I’m not surprised Kencore is becoming a thing,’ she adds.
‘Perfectly in line with his girlfriend, Ken’s wardrobe certainly doesn’t fall short of fun and flamboyance. Similar to Barbiecore, Kencore is all about big, bold and bright looks.’
Indeed, as Emily also points out, it’s nice to see men’s fashion borrowing from a women’s trend instead of the other way around for a change.
‘Across the runways,’ she adds, ‘masculine looks have softened with a subtle touch of traditional femininity – consider the popularity of sweater vests and pearl necklaces in 2022. Harry Styles anyone?
‘Kencore ties perfectly into this, sparking a fresh take on less conservative and restrictive silhouettes that encourage men to dabble in daring and bold outfits.’
