£10 bright red makeup primer is taking over TikTok – so how does it work?

Covering your entire face in a bright red primer might sound absolutely bonkers, but beauty lovers swear it’s responsible for given them an even skin tone and making their makeup last longer.

The product in question is the Oui Cherie Hydrating Gripping Primer,£10 here, from The Beauty Crop, a bright red, translucent, ultra sticky primer that TikTokers can’t stop talking about.

It already has 11.6million views on TikTok and counting, and has become one of TikTok Shop’s best selling products, with a sticky bright red formula that turns clear on application.

Although it might seem counterproductive to rub something bright red and sticky all over your face before applying your makeup, the stickiness is what actually makes your makeup apply better and hold for longer, whilst the red shade of it helps provide all over colour correcting, giving you a more even skin tone.

The ingredients play a major role in how well the primer works, with the water-based, oil-free formula packed full of skincare-worthy ingredients to not only make your makeup go on better, but also care for your skin at the same time.

One of the main ingredients is hyaluronic acid, which is well known for its ultra-hydrating properties, helping restore and retain moisture in your skin throughout the day. It’s also packed full of cherry extract, which works as a powerful antioxidant that helps calm inflammation and protect your skin from environmental aggressors like pollution.

As the many, many TikTok reviews of the Oui Cherie primer can attest, a little goes a long way, so you only need a few swipes of it across your face to get maximum results.

The red shade works by counteracting any deeper areas, such as dark circles or hyperpigmentation, which helps create a more balanced skin tone, so you don’t need to spend as much time on things like concealer.

If you’re worried about your makeup going patchy or moving and clinging to the stickiness in certain areas, one TikToker put it to the test during an indoor skydive. @caradowntonn said:, “It's super soft, sticky and it hasn't made any of my skincare bunch up which is obviously perfect. 80 mph winds and look how good my skin held up.”

Whilst some primers can cause pilling or separating when you apply makeup over the top of them, the unique stickiness of the Oui Cherie primer actually helps your makeup glide smoothly across your face, so you don’t need to worry about it balling up as you apply it.

Thanks to its current viral status, it does tend to sell out incredibly quickly, but don’t worry, it gets restocked every few days, and it’s currently readily available over on The Beauty Crop’s website for just£10 here.
