Best lip tints, glosses and oils to buy in 2022

Best budget lip gloss

Catrice Hydra Lip Plumper, £3.61 here in 3 shades

Formulated with skin-softening hyaluronic acid and with a tingly lip-plumping effect.

Beauty Edit tester Cathy says: “It feels pleasant and tingly and I trialled a lovely neutral shade called Beige Dahlia. This is a good gloss to wear if you're looking for a natural shine, as there isn't much pigment. It does come off when eating but it did last well when I went out shopping for the afternoon. I can't say that I noticed my lips were any plumper than usual but it’s a nice product to wear – I’ll be wearing it over the top of a regular lipstick to add shine.” 4/5

Best tinted lip balm

Guerlain Kiss Kiss Bee Glow Lip Balm, £32 here in 6 shades

Infused with real honey, this enhances the natural colour of lips.

Beauty Edit tester Julie says: “I’m a self confessed lip balm addict, and I Iove this! It looks bright red so I was a bit scared to apply it, but it’s just a light wash of colour when applied. It made my lips feel soft and moisturised. I applied this before the school run, went to the park and shops, and my lips still felt moisturised and with colour still on two hours later. The packaging is rather snazzy as well! There's nothing to not like about this and I would definitely buy it.” 5/5

Best buildable lip tint

Jones Road Lip Tint, £24 here in 9 shades

Bobbi Brown’s latest is billed a hybrid between a hydrating balm and a stain, with pigments saturated enough to layer up.

Beauty Edit tester Polly says : “This product was great for a day-to-evening transformation. Being buildable, it saves money as well as room in my handbag! It felt lightweight on my lips and looked sheer after one application, and then glossy and pigmented when I applied more. Dabbing it with my finger also created an even more subtle look. A very adaptable product indeed." 5/5

Best nourishing lip tint

Typology Tinted Lip Oil, £17.50 here in 4 shades

This mix between makeup and skincare adds glossy colour while conditioning lips with jojoba oil and squalane.

Beauty Edit tester Katy B says: “A fabulous hybrid product, great packaging. Most importantly, this is a non-sticky coloured gloss that turns into a lovely subtle stain, and is very moisturising.” 5/5

Best plumping lip tint

Project Lip Plump & Fill Lip Liner, £15 here in 6 shades

A lip tint stick that can be used to outline, contour and fill the lips. It promises a “touch of tingle” to enhance the plumping effect.

Beauty Edit tester Lucy O says: “This didn’t irritate as I expected from the ginger extracts. However my lips looked larger from the colour [Wild] which stayed on almost all day without need to reapply, even after eating and drinking. My dad asked me if I had had my lips filled, so it definitely gave that pouty look!” 5/5

Best pigmented lip tint

Deck of Scarlet Threeway Solid Lip Oil, £25 here in 25 shades

Starts out as a solid then melts into a smoothing, hydrating oil-balm on contact with your lips.

Beauty Edit tester Chelsea says: “It has a rich colour, is very moisturising and didn't bleed or smudge. Glides on with ease for a lovely smooth application. Shiny, non-sticky finish. My partner thought it was very sexy.” 5/5

Best multi-tasking lip tint

Barry M Fresh Face Cheek & Lip Tint, £4.99 here in 5 shades

A multi-purpose tint with aronia berry and hyaluronic acid for a hydrating, healthy glow.

Beauty Edit tester Saiqa says: “It’s a huge benefit that you can apply it on both lips and cheeks. It does give a really nice colour and it blends well to a smooth finish. You only need to use a little amount which is really good. My niece – who is really into make-up – noticed and asked what I’d used.” 4/5

Best glossy lip tint

Hourglass Phantom Volumizing Glossy Balm, £34 here in 8 shades

This swipes on like a lippie but gives the look of a glossy tint, leaving lips hydrated and plumped.

Beauty Edit tester Lucinda says: “OMG! This is a dreamy gloss for summer. Feels so good on lips and not sticky at all. It provides nourishment with a delicate, buildable pop of colour. Looks luxurious in the gold packaging too, a definite 'beauty shelf show off' product!” 5/5

Best refillable lipstick

Sisley Phyto-Rouge Shine Refillable Lipstick, £36 here in 12 shades

Promising the shine of a gloss, the comfort of a balm and the pigment of a lipstick.

Beauty Edit tester Lucinda says: “This is moisture in a lippy! Soooo gentle on the skin, extremely moisturising and a beautiful colour. It's such a multi-use product – gently tapped on gives a wash of nourishing colour or it can be built up to intensify your look. My chum loves a red lippy and noticed me wearing this. It gives a satiny shine and being refillable, is environmentally friendly, which is very forward thinking.” 5/5
