Best male fragrances for summer 2022 reviewed

Calvin Klein Eternity Summer Daze for Him Eau de Toilette, currently on sale for £30 here

One half of Eternity’s new his and hers duo, designed to blend harmoniously and evoke a relaxed, romantic escape of sunset strolls by the sea. The male scent features sparkling aquatic notes, combined with mint and mandarin – the perfect holiday cocktail.

Beauty Edit tester Giles says: “Very fresh and clean, like sea air – ideal for daytime. A great update on the original Eternity I remember wearing years back.”

Narciso Rodriguez Bleu Noir Parfum For Him, from £52 here

Created for “the mysterious and audacious man” – dubious as a dating profile, but delightful as a fragrance. Expect a warm and made-to-nuzzle scent that combines musk and suede leather with iris and tonka bean.

Beauty Edit tester Tom says: “Nice bottle and a distinctive fragrance – strong and manly but with a bit of sweetness.”

Givenchy Gentleman Eau de Parfum Réserve Privée, from £66.50 here

Dashing 20th century icon gets a 2022 sequel. No, not Top Gun Maverick but an irresistible new addition to the Gentleman reboot. There’s a note of whiskey absolute in this woody, amber vintage, and the spirited theme continues with a hip flask-inspired bottle.

Beauty Edit tester Ian says: “They say you should never mess with a classic – but I’m glad Givenchy ignored that advice. The original is a favourite, and I’ll definitely wear this one too.”

YSL Beauty Y Eau de Toilette For Men, from £58 here

Fronted by Lenny Kravitz, this new version of Y has been remastered with a formula that now lasts on skin up to 12 hours. Less notes than power chords, this air-punching chorus of geranium, warm cedarwood and lavender essence will outstay even the longest rock star encore.

Beauty Edit tester James says: “Very good, long-lasting fragrance. My wife liked it and said it was sexy!”

Carolina Herrera Bad Boy Cobalt Eau de Parfum, from £59.50 here

They say lightning never strikes twice, but obviously nobody has told Carolina Herrara. The original thunderclap fragrance is joined by this new bolt from the blue, an electrifying jolt of pink pepper, truffle and smoky oakwood.

Beauty Edit tester Paul says: “This is very stylish, both in the packaging and the fragrance. It would be a good date night scent.”

Kenzo Homme Eau de Parfum, from £58 here

The bottle is inspired by a bamboo shoot, while the contents conjure up the image of sea water-splashed leather warmed by sunlight. (Cue nostalgic summer rock video.)

Beauty Edit tester Rich says: “Interesting to look at, and to smell. It’s a bit spicy but not overpowering, and something distinctive and memorable.”

Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Italian Love Eau de Toilette, £65 here

David Gandy in his trunks – again. Need more details? Oh very well. If you want to experience the scent with your nose as well as your eyes, you’ll discover Italian bergamot, frozen grapefruit, musk, patchouli and an ozonic sea accord. As ever, it comes with a glamorous female counterpart for the ultimate holiday romance.

Beauty Edit tester Liam says: “I love the striped deckchair-look of the box, and the scent smells really summery too.”

Hugo Boss The Scent Le Parfum for Him, currently on sale from £57 here

An intense creature, this one. It promises to unleash a near-irresistible magnetism, via “aphrodisiac” top notes of ginger and exotic fruit, followed by passionate iris and a deeply manly base of leather. Big talk, but it’s undeniably sexy!

Beauty Edit tester Michael says: ‘This comes in a nice weighty bottle and has a rich, warm scent that smells sophisticated and expensive. It’s the kind of scent I would wear for a special occasion.”

Jimmy Choo Man Aqua Eau de Toilette, from £35 here

Not to be confused with Aquaman but this is definitely a superhero of a fragrance. Fans of fresh, oceanic fragrances will want to dive right into this clean, crisp blend of grapefruit, marine accord, geranium and salted moss.

Beauty Edit tester Nik says: “An excellent scent for summer, I am in the mood for holidays after smelling this.”
