Argos announces new store closures and yours could be at risk – full list

Argos is a popular retail company which stocks an array of products across tech, home, garden, appliances, toys, games and more, and is part of major supermarket Sainsbury’s. The retailer has announced that some Argos stores will be closed, however a new initiative will hopefully see workers keeping their jobs.

Sainsbury’s is slashing three Argos stores in the UK in the next couple of months.

The latest store closure to be announced is the Argos store in Art Stephens, Hull.

However, another store is set to open in Hessle, located in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Argos will do what it can to offer employees of the Hull store roles at other Argos sites or within Sainbury’s.

An Argos spokesperson explained that improve customer experience and make shopping more convenient, the company will be relocating many standalone Argos stores to Sainsbury’s, including the Hull St Stephens Argos.

“We understand this will be an unsettling time for those affected and we are supporting them in any we can, including offering colleagues the opportunity to redeploy to other roles within Sainsbury’s and Argos,” reported Hull Live.

The spokesperson confirmed that a new Argos will open inside Sainsbury’s Hull, allowing shoppers “greater convenience and choice”.

The addition of an Argos to the supermarket means customers will be able to purchase gadgets, home and toy products as they pick up their groceries.

The Hull store is not the only standalone Argos getting scrapped, with Cardiff Bay due to close in July and Newport later in the summer.

It is understood that the 34 Republic of Ireland stores will be shut by June 24, 2023.
