‘I want to be the next Louis Vuitton’: Birmingham-born designer Jashaan Gill, 26, dismissed by teachers and laughed out of board rooms takes fashion world by storm after opening NY Fashion Week and being invited to LA by rapper the Game
As a schoolboy in Birmingham, Jashaan Gill was mocked by his teachers for wanting to go into fashion.
A little over a decade later, the now-26-year-old designer, from Oldbury, is making waves on the global fashion scene and has just returned from running a show at LA Fashion Week.
While in LA, he worked with American rapper The Game and also saw Pump It Up rapper Joe Budden sit in the front row of his New York show.
Self-confessed ‘one-man-band’ Jashaan told MailOnline it was ‘absolutely unbelievable’ coming from a working class background to ending up in one of the fashion capitals of the world.
He hopes his luxury streetwear brand Jheez, which he founded when he was just 17 years old, will one day rival Louis Vuitton in terms of popularity.
But his lofty ambitions for his brand, named after the slang term said in a moment of surprise, weren’t always supported.

He says he was laughed out of board rooms because he was so young when he set up his fashion brand
When he first told his teachers he wanted to study textiles aged 15, they suggested he just wanted to be in a class where there were more girls.
He told MailOnline: ‘They said, “you don’t really like fashion.”‘
On top of this, he previously told the Birmingham Mail that he’s been laughed out of boardrooms over the past nine years that he’s been running Jheez due to his age.
Despite the lack of support he had, he says his business has ‘really grown year on year’.
He added: ‘I’m a one man band. This month I’ll be celebrating nine years.’
Jashaan’s models showed off his range of limited edition urban streetwear at LA Fashion Week
One female model wore white trainers with camouflage trousers and jacket over the top of a khaki top
Another of his models flaunted Jheez products that included a white balaclava and all-black outfit
Other models were wearing Jashaan Singh Gill’s pale blue Jheez dungarees as they strutted along the catwalk
He started the brand after he managed to get work experience at a local garment production factory to learn the ins and outs of making clothes.
His bedroom eventually turned into a stockroom for his clothing line.
His work quickly began appearing in major fashion magazines like GQ in 2020 and 2021, despite being ‘laughed out’ of boardrooms by fashion executives who looked down on the young entrepreneur.
He told the Birmingham Mail that he will soon be working with famed American rapper The Game, proving, in Jashaan’s words, ‘nothing is impossible’.
Jashaan told the news outlet: ‘New York Fashion Week was surreal to be on that platform, it sold out with 2,000 people attending. Joe Budden also attended, to have that was a heart-warming experience.

‘I was highlighted as an independent designer to watch out for. I was then invited to Japan, Paris or LA so I took LA as it is the home of streetwear fashion.’

His advice to other youngsters like him was: ‘Just start. You will find your way. Focus on the people who are supporting you from the very start.’
However, he admitted it was always good to have a back up option, whatever your dream may be.
He said: ‘I do have a law degree. You need to have a Plan B.
‘I’m from a working class background so I have had to do it all by myself.’
Next in his sights is appearing at Paris or Milan fashion weeks.
He said: ‘It’s surreal. Paris and Milan are fashion capitals of the world.
‘I hope to be on par with Louis Vuitton in terms of popularity.’
