An electrician turned guitar teacher from Bournemouth is currently wowing America’s Got Talent audiences after making it through to the Season 18 live shows with his electrifying performances.
John Wines, 59, teaches at The Bourne Academy in Bournemouth, but has taken a brief hiatus to show off his impressive electric guitar skills in front of the show’s A-list judges Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara and Simon Cowell.
The teacher, who is an expert in the guitar, ukulele and bass guitar and shares online tips on @oldgreyguitarist on social media, only applied for the competition to help show a student how to overcome stage fright – and has said the response to his playing has left him staggered.

During the first televised auditions in June, Wines, 59, kicked off the show astounding the judges with his guitar skills playing Queens’ hit song We Will Rock You. The crowd and the judges gave him a standing ovation.
‘I was not expecting that,’ Simon said.
Watched by his wife Julie, Wines left crowd chanting for him to perform more, leaving him in tears.
After he was given four yeses and a standing ovation, he told a cheering audience: ‘I’m so happy! The phrase ‘I’m doing things I could never have dreamed of’ has never been so apt.’

Rocking out: Wines says he’s had lots of support from students and his colleagues in Bournemouth
‘That was so much fun to watch,’ Sofia Vergara, 50, said. ‘You didn’t think you could be a teacher, but did you think you could be a rockstar?’
‘It’s the most exhilarating moment,’ John said.
The judges all voted him on.
Wines, who’s been a teacher for 16 years at Bourne Academy, and was previously an electrician, told the Daily Echo in Bournemouth that he’s had lots of support from students and staff.
He said: ‘The kids and staff have been fantastic, this school cannot do enough for me. I never expected all this, I knew it might go a bit crazy, but this is insane.’
His school posted today: ‘Good luck John, we can not wait to see how you dazzle the audience this time!’
Wines will next be seen on Wednesday 23rd August, with early birds able to catch him on the show between 1am and 3am.
