An aunt and mother in Scotland has sent the internet into a frenzy after she dressed up as The Grinch to surprise their children – but received a very unfriendly welcome.
Carla Swan, from North Lanarkshire, enlisted her sister Charmaine to don green tights, face paint and a Father Christmas outfit to resemble the Dr Seuss character.
She posted a clip on her Facebook page showing Charmaine bursting into the house and making a beeline for the Christmas tree – but both Carla and Charmaine’s children weren’t very happy to see the character who hates Christmas.
As Charmaine’s Grinch burst into the house, the three cousins went through a range of emotions, from fear to anger – with the eldest taking it upon himself to defend his household.
The clip has been shared 25,000 times on Facebook, but has been more than a million times on X as people have been left crying with laughter at the chaotic scene.
Evil aunt: Charmaine revealed in the Facebook comments that it was in fact her, and her sister was in on it
The 30-second clip begins with Charmaine, dressed as The Grinch, bursting into the family home with a black bin bag.
She immediately topples the Christmas tree onto the floor causing a crash, as the two youngest cousins wail and a dog barks in the background.
However, Carla’s eldest son decides to take matters into his own hands and tackles the Grinch for the havoc it has wreaked upon his home.
Charmaine has since clarified the children knew the ‘Grinch’ was their aunt in disguise – but as she attacked their Christmas scene, it seems they weren’t taking any chances.
As the video continues, the eldest child has battled Charmaine to the floor and is punching her, while the younger children continue to cry.
Posting the clip on facebook, Carla said: ‘OMG!.. I’m howlin at this, the wean setting about the Grinch’.
People commented on the video labelling it ‘hilarious’ and asked Charmaine if they could hire her to inflict the same chaos on their own homes.
The amateur Grinch responded to say her back hadn’t quite recovered from the rugby tackle she’d received from her nephew.
Others said they ‘can’t stop watching’ the chaotic 30-second clip.
On Twitter, Charmaine indicated that she was receiving unwarranted hate for her antics but clarified the children knew who she was, and added that the tree was replaced the following day.
Unhappy nephew: He proceeded to rugby tackle the child
She continued: ‘No kids were traumatised as they knew it was me and the excessive screaming in the back is because I grabbed her advent calendar’.
Last year, one Belfast mother was horrified after paying £85 for a ‘Grinch visit’ for her son – only to end up having her home trashed.
Laura Magill, thought to be from Northern Ireland, shared her ‘disgusting’ experience in a Facebook post, which has since gone viral after being posted on Twitter.
However instead, Grinch ‘came and stole Christmas’, allegedly destroying ‘every single bit of party food’, breaking the tree decorations, pouring washing up liquid, juice and smashed eggs on the kitchen floor, as well as on her son.
Describing the damage, the mother wrote: ‘Every single bit of party food, expensive cupcakes, thrown all over the place. Tree decorations broke’.
