My entitled sister-in-law ate almost all of the leftovers from my wedding – I’m furious with her but my husband thinks I’m being unreasonable

• However, her husband’s sister took most of them without asking 

A new bride has questioned if she is in the wrong for being mad at her sister-in-law for eating her wedding leftovers without asking. 

The unnamed woman took to Reddit to share that she and her partner had tied the knot and had eight trays of food, 10 boxes of cupcakes and three trays of cookies left. 

Following their Saturday wedding, the newlyweds took the food to her mother-in-law’s home until they could pick it up on Monday. 

However, upon arriving at her husband’s mom’s home, she discovered that her sister-in-law had munched on their leftovers and even shared some with her coworkers, meaning they only had three food trays and three boxes of cupcakes left.

Now, the bride has questioned if she is in the wrong in a thread titled, ‘Am I the A**hole,’ for being angry with her sister-in-law for eating her leftovers. 

At the beginning of the post, she explained: ‘So my wedding was a Saturday and we had guests in from out of town leaving on Sunday so we had [my] mother-in-law take the leftovers to her house to store until we could make room and freeze any leftover cookies. 

‘I easily had eight trays of food, 10 boxes of cupcakes and three trays of cookies left.’ 

However, when they arrived at her husband’s mom’s house on Monday, hey were met with a shock. 

They were surprised to see that they now only had three food trays and three boxes of cupcakes. 

Although, the new bride was ‘furious’, she decided to stay quiet. However, when she discovered her sister-in-law raided their food, she decided to talk to her husband. 

She explained: ‘Turns out my sister-in-law went and raided our stuff taking food and cookies to take home with her. Keep in mind, I allowed people to take stuff from the wedding and expected what we took home was ours. 

‘The same day we picked up our stuff we also received a phone call she wanted more of our cookies and cupcakes to take to work.’

She explained that she would have been ‘more than willing’ to give her sister-in-law some of the food had she asked, however, the new bride was furious she didn’t even ask if she could have some of their food. 

The bride added: ‘I’m not a selfish person but I was upset when I wanted to get something it was gone. 

‘I’ve said to my husband many times while we were dating about his sister’s behavior because this isn’t the only time she has acted entitled, and he just blows it off, maybe because he knows how his family is. Don’t get me wrong I love my in-laws but sometimes they really over step their boundaries.’

Luckily for the new bride, people on the web flooded the comments section and ran to her defense.

One person said: ‘Not the a**hole. I could see her taking a tray or two of food but she took five trays of food and seven boxes of cookies in 1 day if that’s correct? You don’t take more than half the food that someone else paid for without asking; that’s just rude.

Someone else added: ‘Not the a**hole, but you’re in for a rough ride if he doesn’t have your back over simple things the big ones are gonna be rough.’ 

Luckily for the new bride, people on the web flooded the comments section and ran to her defense

‘He’s a weak doormat and his sister is a major a**hole. Be prepared for this to be your life,’ one user added. 

One person said: ‘Not the a**hole. Send her a bill for the cost of the food and ask her how she’d like to pay for it, but you want the money back by the end of November 2023. When she says what tell her it’s classified as theft and you had plans for that leftover food. Had she asked you you would’ve happily given her some, but you hate thieves.’ 

‘I’d send her an invoice for the food she took,’ someone else wrote. 

Another person said: ‘Not the a**hole. It sounds as if you had a lot of leftover food. She had no right to just take the food you paid for. if she had asked would you have given more? You need to put your foot down now and set some boundaries otherwise this will continue.’ 

Someone else added: ‘Absolutely send her a bill for the food.’ 

‘Send her a bill for all the food she took. It’s stealing,’ one user wrote.
