How downward curved nails could indicate breathing problems

In the video the Asian-owned small business reveals that if your nails curve downwards, it could indicate breathing problems.

These types of nails are also known as clubbed nails and could be the first sign of a serious health concern.

Nails that curl downwards could indicate you are suffering from breathing problems.

Common health problems in those with downward curved nails include, chronic obstructive pulmonary (COPD), chronic bronchitis, asthma or even lung cancer.

The nail bed usually begins by softening before curving.

How curved upwards nails could mean you have liver or lung problems

If your nails are curved upwards, you are likely to experience liver or lung problems

If your nails are curved upwards, you are likely to experience liver or lung problems.

According to the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, curved upward nails are seen in 35 per cent of people with non-small lung cancer and four per cent of people with small cell lung cancer.

It adds that upwards finger clubbing happens in stages.

First, the base of the nail becomes soft and the skin next to the nail bed often becomes shiny.

Next, you will begin to notice your nails are more curved than normal when looking at them from the side.

Lastly, the ends of your fingers will often become larger and start swell, which is due to fluid collecting in the soft tissues of the fingers.

The video explained that vertical lines could indicate stomach or nerve problems and that horizontal ridges could mean you have ‘possible intestinal problems’

What the vertical and horizontal lines on your nails say about your stomach and nerve problems

The TikTok then explained that if your nails have spotted vertical lines on them it could indicate that you have stomach or nerve problems.

According to Healthline, fingernail ridges are often sings of other serious health problems.

Many people with vertical lines on their nails also have Multiple Sclerosis or MS, which is a disease that impacts the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves that make up the central nervous system.

And, if the lines on your nails are horizontal rather than vertical, this could mean you have ‘possible intestinal problems.’

If the horizontal ridges are on the further part of your nail it can indicate the presence of IBS or Celiac disease.

The presence of horizontal ridges are often called Beau’s lines and they are usually symptoms of a serious condition.

In addition to intestinal problems, horizontal lines can also indicate kidney disease.

How big nail moons could mean high blood pressure

A nail moon that is too large could indicate high blood pressure

‘A nail moon that’s too big indicates a risk of high blood pressure,’ revealed the Asian-owned small business.

The half-moon shape the base of your nail is known as the lunulae and is considered too big when it occupies a third or more of your fingernail.

It often indicates problems with the cardiovascular system, heartbeat disruption and high blood pressure.

According to the CDC, high blood pressure or hypertension increases the risk for other heart problems, such as heart disease, heart attack and a stroke.

Most people develop high blood pressure as a result of their diet, lifestyle or a medical condition, but the base of your nails just may be able to tell you whether or not you should make that doctors appointment for hypertension.

How the absence or nail moons that are too small could mean you have low blood pressure

Small nail moons could mean you have low blood pressure

Conversely, small nail moons could mean you have low blood pressure.

A lunulae that is too small is one that can barley be seen behind the cuticle.

Small nail moons indicate low blood pressure and circulatory disorders and are often a sign of a weak immune system, poor metabolism or lack of iron and B12.

If your nail moon is separated from the rest of your nail with transverse lines, it could show there is a possible development of diabetes.

The absence of a nail moon can mean the presence of extreme fatigue and low immunity.

The small business added: ‘Nail moons can recede due to staying up too late, poor digestion, anemia and low thyroid function.’

According to Healthline, missing nail moons are not always cause for concern, as they could just be hidden underneath the cuticle or skin at the base of your finger.

However, the lack of lunulaes can also be a sign of depression or malnutrition.

If you’re experiencing fatigue or overall weakness and have noticed your nail moons are missing, Healthline notes you should make an appointment to see your doctor.
