Friends star Courteney Cox has been with her very famous husband for a decade after being introduced by Ed Sheeran.
Courteney, 59, who is best known for her iconic role as Monica Geller, has been in a long-term relationship with Snow Patrol musician Johnny McDaid. While they got engaged just a year after dating they are yet to walk down the aisle.
The pair were first introduced by their mutual friend Ed Sheeran and started dating in September 2013. They kept their relationship quiet until rumours began to emerge in December 2013 after they were spotted attending co-star Jennifer Aniston’s Christmas party together.
'They couldn’t be happier'
In the new year, Courteney and Johnny confirmed their relationship as they attended several events together. Having been behind their romance, Ed Sheeran let slip in April 2014 that the couple were already living together.
He told the Mirror at the time: "I'm not sure that it's public knowledge, so maybe I shouldn’t have said anything – but, yes, they're already living together.
"Things are moving fast. He moved in and, judging by the last time I saw them, they couldn’t be happier."
'I'm engaged'
After a whirlwind romance and less than a year later, the couple got engaged in June 2014. Courteney announced the news on Twitter alongside a snap and wrote "I'm engaged to him!".
The actress revealed during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that the Snow Patrol singer had popped the question while at her 50th birthday party at Jennifer Aniston’s house. She also shared that he had asked her daughter Coco for permission. "He said, 'I'd like to marry your mom,' and gave her a little diamond ring," she recalled.
"She said, 'Great, I'm going to camp tomorrow. Let's do it right now.'"
Coco is all grown up and can occasionally be found in a snap alongside her famous mum. Celebrating her birthday in June this year, Courteney wrote the caption: "Happy Birthday Cocolicious! I love you and your sweet, caring, sensitive, spicy, original, salty, witty, beautiful heart", alongside a sweet snap.
Brief split
They hit a rocky patch in their relationship and called off their engagement in November 2015, before rekindling their love by March 2016. The couple have remained loved-up ever since and have frequently gushed about each other in interviews. "I know that I’ve never loved like I love this woman," Johnny told US Weekly in May 2016.
Courteney explained to Bear Grylls in August 2016 why she had split with Johnny and revealed: "There’s something about … you know, he’s from Ireland. And the way he regards love is precious. … I didn’t know how to regard love the way he does.
"I didn’t know how to bring it in. It was always external. I definitely have learned a lot, and no matter what, I will be a better person from that breakup."
Loved-up
While they are yet to walk down the aisle, in September 2016 the Irish guitarist made the ultimate commitment to the Friends star and got her initials tattooed on his wrist. Two years later in October 2018, Johnny lovingly shared how his family had extended and spoke of Courteney's daughter Coco whom she shares with ex-husband David Arquette.
He told US Weekly: "We’re kind of growing as it is and Courteney and Coco often come over and we all have a big gathering" when mentioning his siblings.
Courteney has often taken to Instagram to share a series of sweet snaps with her Irish guitarist beau. From date nights and life at home to special occasion tributes. For Johnny's birthday in July this year, the actress posted a snap on Instagram as she kissed her partner's cheek.
In the caption she lovingly wrote: "Happy birthday my sweetheart. Good to know that when you’re older… you’ll actually look older than me. I love you x". The next photo showed the same photo of the pair but with a filter depicting an older age complete with grey hair.
Decade anniversary
For their 10 year anniversary in September this year, Courteney put together a slideshow of their love story so far from how they were introduced by Ed Sheeran to all the memories they had created together. One clip was a video of Ed singing a song dedicated to Courteney as he sat beside his Snow Patrol pal.
The last photo showed a cosied-up snap of the couple as Courteney wrote "Happy anniversary J". She captioned the Instagram post "10 years!!!" with a love heart emoji.
During an interview with People in 2022 the Cougar Town star gave a closer insight into her feelings for her long-term partner. She lovingly said he is "a great listener. And I've never met someone more patient.
"He's a great advice-giver. I love his heart, his intentions. His morals. He's extremely talented and obviously musical, but he's a poet and a writer. He's just so smart, and I find that really sexy. And then he is gorgeous."
