David Tanaka’s (Takaya Honda) life is on the line in Neighbours next week, when he’s moved to a maximum security prison after being branded a flight risk.
The doctor, as viewers know, is currently on bail, after admitting to letting Gareth Bateman die during the River Bend ordeal earlier this year.
Despite his doubts and concerns, he later agreed to go away on holiday with husband Aaron Brennan (Matt Wilson), which is a decision he will ultimately come to regret.
The holiday, at first, proves to be exactly what David needs, and on the final night of the getaway, Nicolette Stone (Charlotte Chimes) joins he and Aaron.
The trio decide to take the boat out before David’s final bail check-in, but they end up trapped and sea, leaving David fearing the worst!
Nicolette comes to the rescue, finding emergency fuel which is enough to get them back to shore. David gets off with a warning from the police, but upon returning to Erinsborough, things take a devastating turn.
Andrew Rodwell (Lloyd Will) hauls him in for questioning, and reveals that he’s now considered a flight risk, meaning that he must be held in remand.
Aaron is both appalled and devastated, while Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis) takes his frustrations out on Andrew.
Despite their best efforts, however, there is nothing they can do.
Next week, there’s more bad news, as David’s loved ones learn that he’s being held at a maximum security prison until his sentencing.
David is terrified in prison, especially when Paul points out he’ll need to adapt to survive, and his worst fears are realised when he’s issued with a fearful warning by a fellow inmate.
Worried for his safety, David relays his concerns to those who love him, and everyone rallies around, hoping to do whatever it takes to get him out of prison.
Paul, meanwhile, discovers that an old foe of his, named Holden, is in the same prison, and thus he pays him to protect David.
Things, however, don’t go to plan, and tragedy ensues.
Something happens to David, and his nearest and dearest are stunned to find out what has transpired. At this point, they realise that there is every little they can do to help him.
The question is: just what has happened? Has David been attacked? Will he be okay?
That remains to be seen. Freya Wozniak (Phoebe Roberts), however, may have a solution, after she receives a visit from Emma, Gareth’s ex, who has an interesting proposition for her.
One to watch: Thursday June 30 at 1:45pm and 6pm on Channel 5.
