A dentist has revealed the five things you should avoid doing before you brush your teeth – including the foods that you must not consume before getting ready to clean your pearly whites.
Dr. Derek Chung is a Canadian-based dentist who frequently shares tips and tricks on his TikTok channel to get his followers’ pearly whites perfect.
Most recently, Dr. Chung detailed the various foods you should never eat and things you should never do right before brushing your teeth, revealing how they can cause serious damage to your mouth if consumed at the wrong time.
The dentist shared that brushing your teeth after throwing up, drinking carbonated water, eating citrus, and more can be harmful.

Dr. Chung detailed the various foods you should never eat right before brushing your teeth because they may cause issues – he said to not throw up or eat pickles before brushing
He noted that coffee is also ‘acidic’ so you have to ‘wait’ at least 20 minutes before brushing your teeth

He captioned the viral clip, which has amassed over 5,000,000 views so far, ‘Acidic foods may be yummy, but can be harmful to your teeth.’
‘Do not brush your teeth after having these five things,’ he said at the beginning of the clip.
The first thing he said to avoid was brushing your teeth after throwing up.
Dr. Chung explained: ‘If you’re sick and you throw up, don’t brush your teeth right after.
‘Fight the urge because your enamel is actually way weaker, and you’re just going to brush away your enamel.
‘So, wait 20 minutes, rinse your mouth with a little bit of water, and then brush your teeth.’
Next, he revealed that you should avoid eating any pickles or pickled vegetables before brushing your teeth.
The dentist noted that the vinegar inside the vegetables can make your enamel ‘weaker.’
Then, he told viewers to avoid drinking coffee before taking out their toothbrushes too.
He noted that coffee is also ‘acidic’ so you have to ‘wait’ at least 20 minutes before brushing your teeth.
