Dianne Buswell topped the Strictly Come Dancing leaderboard for Movie Week on Saturday, and she scored a perfect ten in our book for her hair. Like many viewers, we thought we’d chopped in a fringe again – a look that’s very on trend for this season – but the dancer has now explained how the look was created with a bit of clever fakery.
Posting to her Instagram Stories, Dianne begins with a snap of her holding up a fringe wig against her face, looking rather like a red-haired member of ZZ Top. “Before the fringe went on,” she captions it.
Her Stories then cuts to a video showing the new section attached to her own hairline and positioned above a plastic visor stuck to her forehead. “Tricks of the trade,” she says. “Do a little visor!” Her stylist then lets the fringe down over the visor for a trim, while Dianne joins in with a backstage chorus of Hopelessly Devoted To You, the classic Grease song which Helen Skelton and Gorka Marquez were performing a Viennese Waltz to later that night.
Dianne’s new hairstyle was overseen by Strictly hairdresser Brad Thomas, who snipped the perfectly colour-matched fringe, leaving two long side tendrils, and covered the join with a bridal headpiece. The makeover was greeted with a storm of fire emojis, claps and love hearts from impressed fans. “Gorgeous!” said one.
Dianne last had a fringe for real back in July 2021 at celeb salon Larry King London, a makeover that won over 68k likes and hundreds of compliments – so we wonder if this Saturday’s hair look might tempt her to revisit the style again?
If she does, she’ll be in good company, because celebs including Lily Collins, Louisa Lytton and Phoebe Dyvenor have all recently chopped in bangs. Go on, Dianne, you know it looks great on you!
Dianne wasn’t the only Strictly star getting a bit of movie magic added to their beauty regime on Saturday night. Amy Dowden swapped fake tan for green face and body makeup to channel Gomora from Guardians of the Galaxy, a look which caused hilarious wardrobe issues backstage. Dianne and fellow pro Katya Jones were caught on camera tugging at Amy’s trousers, as the Welsh pro-dancer tried to avoid smudging bright green makeup all over her costume.
We’ll definitely be tuning in on Saturday to see who’s had the best hair makeover for Week 4. Keeeep crimping!
