Did Georgie and James hit it off on our new blind date?

‘He said I was too attractive to be single – he’s cute, too’: Did Georgie and James hit it off on our new blind date?

  • Every week, FEMAIL asks two singletons to report back from their blind date

GEORGIE, 32

Single for ten years, no children.

Dating past?

I’ve been on so many bad dates. From men who ‘catfish’ and use a picture that doesn’t resemble them in real life, to guys who only talk about themselves.

But I’m one of triplets, and one sister got married last summer, while the other is now engaged — I would love to have a date to accompany me to the wedding.

Pre-Date Nerves?

Yes, it was strange to know so little about what my date looked like. It is rather a public way to go about it!

Georgie, 32, is searching for a kind, ambitious and confident guy who is interesting, ideally tall and funny

First Impressions?

James has a cute face, although I can’t remember the colour of his eyes. He looked kind and was very smiley, too.

I arrived late because of traffic, but he couldn’t have been nicer about it, greeting me with a hug and a kiss on the cheek.

He was a real gent, even complimenting me on my outfit. I’d taken a while to choose what to wear, so I was chuffed.

Easy To Talk To?

Yes — James said I was very attractive (which was lovely of him), so he couldn’t understand why I’ve been single so long.

I explained that the apps aren’t great and the pandemic didn’t help. James had a relationship during Covid that didn’t work out.

We have both recently bought flats to renovate. James left the interior decor to his sister (also called Georgie), which I thought was nice; it’s always good to meet someone who is close to their family.

As for me, my home is Victorian, so I’ve kept its character.

Embarrassing Moments?

No, I don’t think so.

Did Sparks Fly?

I don’t believe in love at first sight, so I wouldn’t have envisaged a romantic spark on a first date.

I like James as a person, but we’re quite different. He talked about possibly moving abroad and exploring new cities, whereas I am looking to settle down here.

We’re both introverts. I’m looking for a confident guy who’ll bring out my energetic side.

See him again?

I don’t think so. He’s such a gent that he waited with me for ages in the pouring rain until my taxi arrived — and he checked later that I’d got home safely. But that’s where it ends.

Although, if he was in my neighbourhood I’d be happy to meet him for a coffee.

What do you think he thought of you?

That’s a hard question. There wasn’t any flirty energy, but I think he’d say that he enjoyed the date with me.

Would your sisters like him?

They’d agree James is nice — but not for me.

Dating Past?

I’ve had three girlfriends throughout my 20s, and each relationship has lasted one to two years.

The first two I met through friends and on nights out, and the most recent was through online dating.

My mum put me forward for this date. While she’d like me to meet someone, I’m not sure I’m quite ready to settle down yet.

James, 30, has been single for eight months. He’s hoping to find an attractive, funny and intelligent woman

Pre-Date Nerves?

Yes, a blind date is a strange concept, and it didn’t help that Georgie was 40 minutes late.

The waiting staff kept asking me if I wanted to order, so I had a couple of cocktails.

First Impressions?

Georgie is blonde and quite striking. She was well-dressed and had made an effort in a vibrant blue dress.

I was wearing chinos, Chelsea boots and a shirt. I got up to greet her, kissing her on the cheek, and I complimented her on her outfit.

Easy To Talk To?

We both work in the London corporate world, so we talked about putting in long hours and hoping they pay off with promotions.

We’ve both got an interesting connection with Queens Park Rangers football club; her family are all fans and a relative of hers worked for the club, while my great-great uncle was chairman in the 1950s.

We also talked about travel; Georgie asked me if I had lived abroad. At 21, I spent a summer in Sydney with family.

Embarrassing Moments?

I did wonder if other diners thought I’d been stood up before she arrived.

Did Sparks Fly?

A little — but not hugely. I flirted with Georgie by making eye contact, and I touched her arm once when I made a joke. I don’t know if there was anything more.

See her again?

I would if she was on the right side of town and our diaries aligned. We haven’t been in touch since the date, though.

What do you think she thought of you?

That I’m a good person to share the date experience with. I hope I made her feel comfortable and was attentive.

I complimented Georgie throughout the meal and she told me I had nice skin. It was a lovely compliment — using SPF moisturiser daily is paying off!

Would your family like her?

Georgie is well spoken, she went to a good university and works hard. My family would definitely approve.
