The fine comes with three penalty points per tyre and a six month disqualification for repeat offences within three years.

Also having blunt or broken windscreen wipes comes with a fine of £2,500 and three penalty points.

Drivers must be aware of the safety as windscreen wipes should be "properly adjusted and maintained in efficient working order".

Section 34 of the Road Vehicles Regulations 1986 says cars must be fitted with a wiper and washer capable of cleaning at all times.

The rules ensures motorists have a clear view of the road to avoid the chances of any road traffic incidents.

If the car has no washer fluid, the motorist could be slapped with a charge for careless driving.

Police have the power to issue an on-the-spot fixed penalty notice for £100 and three points on their licence.

Meanwhile, there are other motoring laws which drivers must be aware of in order to avoid fines.

Previously, it was revealed three common "thank you gestures" could land drivers £1,00 fines – including a thumbs up.

Almost a third (29.1%) of motorists choose to say "thank you" on the roads by waving, a survey found.

The National Tyres and Autocare found one in five (21.2%) prefer to flash their headlights.
