EastEnders star James Bye’s sweet baby name meaning with royal connection

Just over a week since safely welcoming their fourth child into the world, EastEnders and Strictly Come Dancing star James Bye and his wife Victoria have officially revealed the name of their precious little one.

The adorable little boy was born on June 18th, with the proud parents announcing they had settled on the name Rufus Gray on Monday, a name which thankfully leant itself to the adorable nickname “Roo.”

Sharing the news on social media, Victoria wrote: "Rufus Gray… 18.06.23… 8lb 1oz. Hello little Roo xx. You’re here… Our new little Bye…”

The adorable new moniker is the perfect name for the couple’s newest addition to the family, and carries with it a surprising legacy, with several singers, actors and even royals among recipients of the majestic name.

Originally of Latin origin, the name actually means “red-head”, and was also once even the nickname of red-haired King William II! It may however be more familiar to people at home thanks to actors such as Rufus Sewell of A Knight’s Tale and The Diplomat fame, or even Hallelujah singer Rufus Wainwright.

The name also boasts a biblical connection, as Rufus is mentioned in the New Testament of the bible as the son of Simon the Cytherian, with several saints also having been named as Saint Rufus over the years.

Rufus is also a popular name in works of pop-culture these days too, with Rufus Humphrey a Gossip Girl character, appearing in the smash hit series of the same name, while Rufus Shinra is a popular antagonist in the JRPG Final Fantasy VII franchise.

Gray meanwhile is an equally unique choice, as it is a shortened version of the name Grayson, which typically translates to "the son of the bailiff".

Alongside the initial name announcement, the couple also shared a lengthy post which celebrated the youngster and the joy he had brought into their lives.

Victoria wrote: "You kept us waiting for such a long time little one, but oh wow were you worth the wait.

"We’re absolutely over the moon, smitten kittens and just head over heels for you. Our precious little rainbow… and boy have you brought the sun with you. (Like seriously, we’re all melting).

"And erm, check out the hair! A little styler like your brothers already. It’s safe to say. We’re just in love. This first week has been a whirlwind of you."

"It’s safe to say. We’re just in love."

Victoria went on to gush about her first week with the little one, as she spoke about cuddles, "sore boobs", and even the slightly less glamorous reality of braving her way through several "poonamis".

Posting snaps of the precious little one, the doting mum wrote: "After a long induction, a long labour, lots of ups & downs & all the drama along the way (oh don’t you worry I’ll be filling you in on everything…) our hearts are near to bursting with the arrival of our precious baby boy."

"I just can’t believe I have him, here, in my arms, safely home and ours to keep for always. It still hasn’t sunk in… I’m definitely still in shock and I still can’t believe he’s mine".
