Engagement ring designer shares 3 designs that should be avoided at all costs

An engagement ring designer left TikTok users stunned after she revealed three types that should be avoided at all costs.

The Toronto designer, who posts on the app as @castlefieldcollection, believes her followers deserve rings that will last the longest possible time – but that isn't always the case.

That's why she took to TikTok with a list of features that should be avoided when picking out an engagement ring.

In the video, which has gained more than 1.4million likes, she explained: "Here are three engagement ring styles to avoid from somebody who designs engagement rings.

"The first ring you wanna avoid is a ring without a gallery rail. A gallery rail is a thin piece of metal that goes in between the prongs of a ring.

"Without a gallery rail, especially if you only have four prongs holding your stone. If one prong gets pulled down, it gets caught on something and pulled down, you will lose your stone.

"You do not want a ring that looks like this. You want that gallery rail for that extra support.

"Next, I would never buy a very, very thin-banded engagement ring. While thin bands like these can be very pretty, it is just not very durable.

"My recommendation is to always stick to at least 1.8 millimetres for your engagement ring."

The final design, a popular style called a bubble band, is also not durable enough, with the designer adding: "You do not wanna buy a ring like this. The question is not if it will drop stones, it's when.

"You want that bubble band look, make sure that you have at least three prongs holding each stone."

TikTok viewers were shocked by the revelation with many taking to the comments to give their opinions.

One user said: "Not me having a ring with everything you just said."

Another added: "Me here without a rail and a thin band [embarrassed emoji]."

A third commented: "Going through the checklist like yes, yes, yes, my ring passed!"

A fourth wrote: "Thin band club. Don’t care. Happy to get it reinforced every couple of years it’s so stunning."

However, other users found the advice helpful, taking to the comments to thank her instead.

One user said: "Oh I never would have thought of that. Thanks!"

Another added: "This is so helpful."

A third commented: "Oh boy I never knew this stuff! Going to ask my jeweller to add a rail!"
