Engagement rings to suit every budget – and how much you should spend

The general rule for how much you should spend on an engagement ring tends to be the equivalent of three months’ pay.

So if you’re on a salary of £25k that would equate to around £4,800 for a ring, which is an awful lot of money.

Our motto here is pay whatever you feel comfortable with, and remember that while you should spend more than you would on the average purchase, you shouldn’t bankrupt yourself.

Try to learn what cut of diamond they like, maybe oval or emerald, as well as if they prefer gold bands or platinum bands.

It’s also important to note that the average carat (weight of the diamond) of diamonds in the UK is 0.6ct and generally the higher the carat the more expensive, unless you sacrifice clarity.

The right gal or guy will say yes no matter the ring or rock, right?

To help you get started we’ve got some great jewellers which offer engagement rings for every budget.

Cullen Jewellery

Cullen Jewellery was founded by Jordan Cullen in 2018 after he struggled to find an affordable and ethically mined diamond for his now wife.

He decided to source Moissanite and lab grown diamonds, which have the same quality of mined diamonds and look no different but are far more budget-friendly.

These diamonds are not lesser than mined diamonds and buyers can craft their rings from scratch, choosing the stone, cut, band and metal of the ring, so it’s unique to you.

They have designs starting at £800 and up into the thousands which suits any budget.
