Exampleand his model wife, Erin McNaughtannounced their separation after 11 years of marriage.
The pair, who are parents to sons Evander, 7, and five year old Ennio said that their split was “as amicable as it gets” in an emotional statement on social media.
Example, 40, and Erin, also 40, got married in Australia on 18 May 2013 after four years of dating and a year later announced that they were expecting their first child together.
Their relationship has weathered many storms since then and in 2020, Example, whose real name is Elliot Gleave, credited Erin with “saving his life” after pushing life to the extreme with drink and drugs.
He said: “Erin saved me from an early death. I was partying too much back in the day”.
Earlier this year, Erin spoke toDaily Mail Australiawhere she explained what had made the pair’s marriage so strong.
She said: “Good communication and honesty is the key. The whole fairy tale and happy ever after ending that we're sold by society is actually not adhesive to a working marriage.”
Erin added: “Marriages take a lot of work and as time passes individuals change and it's about being able to compromise and communicate and move in tandem with your partner.
“Marriage is tough, especially after ten years together we have definitely had our issues, but we can overcome them”.
Prior to their split the family relocated back to Queensland from London with their young family.
As the pair celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary last year, Example penned: “Shout out my life partner for having my children, having me, having the most twisted sense of humour, ageing backwards and teaching me something new each and every day”.
The pair’s decision to separate came with a lengthy message on Instagram where they wrote: “At the start of the UK summer we decided to separate. We have had an amazing 11 years together, but just a few too many adventures.
“"Obviously we spent a lot of time behind the scenes trying to figure things out, but we came to the realisation that perhaps our time as a couple had just come to a natural end”.
They ended the post by adding :”"If you see us out and about together it’s still the same old Elliot & Erin. Though we spend a lot of our time apart we still enjoy time together climbing, jogging, cinema, chasing kids around the park or getting coffee. Expect to see us out and about together with our children often. This is as amicable as it gets.
"Nobody is blaming anyone in all this. We are very happy that this is the right decision and hope that others can respect this too."
