A family cat who loves to explore has become the newest pupil at a school in Scotland after he was welcomed into the classroom on one of his adventures.
Wilson, a two-year-old tabby cat from Rosehearty in Aberdeenshire, posed for his first ever school photo, complete with a tie, after multiple trips to Rosehearty Primary School where he is now a well-known visitor.
The feline is owned by the Julie and Paul Innes, whose children Hannah, 11, and Joel, nine, are also pupils at the school – and after finding out their cat had been welcomed as an honorary student, 39-year-old Julie wasn’t surprised.
She described the wanderer as a friendly creature who ‘just loves people’ and has no issue approaching strangers for fuss and attention.
After following Hannah and Joel to school on several occasions and despite initial pushback from staff, determined Wilson found his way into the classroom and was eventually inducted as a pupil.
A prefect in the making? Two-year-old tabby cat Wilson (pictured) was given his very own school photo after his repeated visits to Rosehearty Primary School in Aberdeenshire where his owners Hannah and Joel Innes, 11 and nine, attend. After making his way onto the premises following a few failed attempts, the adventurous feline is now part of the furniture
Julie told the Press & Journal that the tabby’s trips to the school are not the only journeys he makes.
‘I’ve had to pick him up from the Brownies at the local church, I had to pick him up from the the local bar, the Davron [hotel], and got him from the butcher,’ she said.
As he became more adventurous, Wilson began following his younger family members to school to see what all the fuss was about.
His first few attempts at getting into Rosehearty Primary were thwarted when staff members put him back outside, but the determined feline wasn’t giving up that easily and kept trying to find his way into the building until he managed to get into a classroom being taught by a cat-loving teacher.
Wilson (pictured) is now a regular feature at the school, but his owner Julie revealed she has previously had to collect him from various locations around town in Rosehearty, including the butchers and the hotel
After finding a sympathetic human who allowed him into the classroom, Wilson remained inside the building all day and snoozed in the corner while the children went about their lessons.
Now, he is a regular visitor to the school and often spends his days strolling around. Even as many of the teachers have gone on strike in recent months, Wilson has continued his trips to Rosehearty Primary. Julie revealed he has now been to almost every single lesson, including PE.
‘I’ve went to pick the kids up from school and I’ve had a phone call, or I get a message from the school now to say ‘Can you come and collect Wilson from reception’?’ she said.
To ensure Wilson felt included with the other pupils, staff even invited him to have his very own school photo as he strolled around the premises on picture day.
The school’s headmaster lent his tie to the photogenic feline, who posed willingly for the picture against a classic sky-blue background.
‘The bairns came home with their photos in the bag and a photo of Wilson, so I ordered a few of them,’ Mrs Innes said.
She revealed she is now stopped in the street by people she doesn’t even know, who all want to hear about Wilson and how he’s doing.
As she and the family reel from their family pet’s new-found fame, she isn’t sure what’s next in store for Wilson – although she hasn’t ruled out an Instagram page.
