The Simpsons has been an unwavering TV staple since 1989 – but many steadfast fans were left scratching their heads at its latest episode.
Earlier this month, a teaser trailer was shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, by the show’s official account.
The clip showed Marge and Homer locked in fierce debate over whether to go to a ‘destination wedding’ in the Poconos.
But it was the mom-of-three’s voice that caught the attention of viewers as many claimed she sounded drastically different to her previously recognizable tone.

Marge is still played by Julie Kavner who has voiced the matriarch since the very beginning of the long-running show
The clip, which has so far been viewed more than 10.2 million times, was shared to promote Season 35 Episode 8 titled Ae Bonny Romance.
Marge is the first to speak but viewers were left stunned at her delivery which was much raspier than usual.
And the stark difference sparked a flurry of comments from stunned social media users.
One wrote: ‘I haven’t watched The Simpsons in quite some time so can somebody please explain… WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO MARGE’S VOICE?!’
Another added: ‘Marge’s voice actress has been THROUGH IT omfg.’
Someone else said: ‘What. Did. You. Do. To. Marge.’
And a fourth commented: ‘Marge sounds horrific. My god.’
But despite many of theories being shared, Marge is still voiced by the same actor – Julie Kavner.

Kavner, who has voiced the matriarch since the very beginning of the long-running show, also voices several other characters including Marge’s onscreen sisters Patty and Selma.
There has been no official statement on the apparent change in tone.
It comes after it was reported that The Simpsons series was going through some major shakeups.
Last month, producers quietly retired a recurring scene in their hit cartoon with the aim of keeping up with modern times.
New episodes will no longer feature the gag where Homer strangles son Bart.
