Periods are such a rollercoaster. On the one hand a blessing from Mother Nature and on the other, debilitating and expensive.
What do you reach for first, the period pants, tampons or the box of painkillers? If you can, both at the same time.
Lots of people are left bedridden from miserable period pains, which were so often shrugged off in recent years as girls were told to just get on with it. Now, there’s a bit more understanding about the monthly suffering some people endure.
Myoovi was created by UK doctors who believe that periods should not be painful and came up with a solution to provide instant relief.
Instead of taking lots of painkillers, you attach a wireless device to your body that emits pulses that feel like little vibrations.
You can wear it under your clothes without anyone seeing it, meaning that your life doesn’t have to stop, like it does for many people normally from period cramps, but you can go out and carry on your day.
Combining science and technology, the TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) device boasts a long life so you don’t have to keep charging it and is 100% natural.
TENS machines have long been adopted during labour and have been highly-effective at controlling muscle-related pain.
It comes in several skin tones – Peach, Sienna and Mocha so you can find a tone that suits you best and helps you feel comfortable.

‘I was able to treat the pain purely with the Myoovi’
‘Lots of people suffer with period pains, but when I say I suffer I am talking in bed all day, permanent hot water-bottle attached, back-to-back painkillers suffering. I’m talking standing in the queue at Boots waiting to buy painkillers, feeling like I might vomit or pass-out type of suffering. Sometimes I take time off work, and at the very least I’ll work from my bed. I’ve tried all the painkillers, and all the oils (yes, including CBD!) but nothing has really helped take the edge off, so when I heard about the Myoovi, I was more than willing to give it a shot.
‘I was prepared, charging the device in advance of when I knew my period would arrive, and on the first day, when my pain is the worst, instead of immediately taking paracetamol, I attached the little device to my stomach. I was worried about it feeling bulky or being visible under my clothes, but it felt very light, and under a loose dress it couldn’t be seen at all. You could easily wear it out and about without it being seen. I also like that it is chargeable so you don’t have to worry about batteries and can just recharge after each use. It has a few pulse modes so it took a bit of trial and error to figure out the best speed and intensity for me. It definitely felt weird at first, but as I got used to the sensation, I was able to change modes to a more intense speed.
‘After a few minutes, I could see it had the desired effect, as I was focused on the tingling sensation much more than the original pain. I was able to treat the pain purely with the Myoovi and no extra medication. I found the longer I used it, the less pain I felt.
‘After a couple of hours, I switched the device to my lower back, where it worked its magic completely removing the pain from that area. I was so impressed. I’ll be using every month on my period, and for cyclical pain in between as well (I might even try venturing into the office with it!)
‘I strongly recommend this to anyone who periods impact their day. The result could be transformational,’ – Sophie, 38, London.
‘I’ll be using it again’
‘I’ve struggled with fairly severe period pains for as long as I can remember, and I’ve tried a range of things to help in the past, including prescribed painkillers and the usual mix of, paracetamol and hot water bottles.
‘The day before and the day my period starts are always the worst times for me, thankfully the pain begins to ease after that, but those two days can be debilitating.
I tried Myoovi on the first day of my period. It was easy to set up, the vibrations certainly take a few moments to get used to, but once I’d found a rhythm I was comfortable with they became quite soothing.
‘The kit is lightweight and easy to wear which I really liked, you can wear it under clothes in public and nobody would know. Overall, it definitely eased some pain but I still needed the usual painkillers alongside it. I’ll be using it again next month,’ – Melissa, 30, London.
