You knead to see this! Grade II former flour mill dating back to 1800 with beautiful country views goes on the market for nearly £1.4million
- The 66ft tall windmill in Wendover, Bucks, is reportedly England’s largest
- Five-storey building dates back to 1800 and was used as a flour mill until 1926
Homebuyers will need a lot of dough if they want to buy this former flour mill that has been put on the market for £1.375million.
The 66ft tall windmill has long since been decommissioned but is now a quirky home with far-reaching country views.
The Grade II listed building in Wendover, Buckinghamshire, is reputed to be the second largest windmill in England and has 3ft thick walls.
It was built in around 1800, shortly after the Wendover arm of the Grand Union Canal opened, and operated as a flour mill until 1926.
The Windmill was first converted into a home in the 1930s and had a major restoration and refurbishment around ten years ago.
A former flour mill converted into a five-storey home has gone on the market for £1.375million
At 66ft tall, the mill is reportedly the second largest in England
The windmill was made into a home in 1930, four years after it was decommissioned
The property underwent a major restoration and refurbishment about a decade ago
The five-storey home, which has five bedrooms, is now up for sale with Savills following the death of the previous owner.
The Windmill has 2,765 sq ft of accommodation with a dining room, kitchen and bathroom on the ground floor, two bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor, a sitting room on the second floor, two bedrooms and two bathrooms on the third floor and the master bedroom with en suite bathroom and dressing room on the fourth floor.
On the top floor is the conical loft in the cap of the windmill, from which there are impressive views over the roof tops of Wendover and the Chiltern Hills beyond.
Outside it has a decent sized garden and a gravelled parking area.
Nick Pounce, from estate agents Savills, said: ‘This beautifully restored former windmill provides a truly unique style of living with plenty of adaptable space arranged over the five octagonal floors.
It comes with 2,765 sq ft of living space, including five bedrooms and four bathrooms
The unusual listing went on sale after its previous owner, who ran it as an AirBnb, passed away
‘It is ideal for people who want something different and unique in character.
‘The one thing you will get with a windmill is spectacular views, but that also means a lot of stairs.
‘What’s nice with this, as opposed to a circular windmill, is it is much easier to furnish because you have straight walls instead of curved ones
‘It’s also in the village centre so you have a two-minute walk to the shops and pubs and ten minutes to the station.
‘The last owner ran it as an AirBnb and it was always booked. I could see the buyer being someone coming out of London that wants a bit of a trophy property to invite friends out to the country for the weekend.’
