Forget Santa’s sleigh bells or the bobble-hat brigade at your door, there’s no sound more familiar to families at Christmas than hurried hands rummaging through the festive chocolate box.
After little brothers and sisters have battled for the last Bounty, and squiffy aunt Bes has fondled every sweet until she’s found her favourite, there is inevitably the same sorry handful of the usual suspects left at the bottom of the tub for poor old dad.
Now a chocolate fan has come up with the ultimate method of testing whether it’s by design or a quirk of fate that he has been left perpetually peeved by missing out on his favourites.
Charlie Murphy, 28, from North Yorkshire, bought eight tubs of Celebrations – one box for every sweet among the mix – and began counting….
Charlie Murphy, 28, from North Yorkshire, has taken it upon himself to conduct some research and find out the answers for the nation
He shared his results on X (formerly known as Twitter) and TikTok, where he goes by @charliemurphy50 – today alone he received more than 100,000 views on TikTok and more than a million on X.
Charlie, a full time carer for his disabled father, alongside being a content creator, told MailOnline: ‘I was really interested to see how many ‘good’ and ‘bad’ ones you get per tub.
‘I was expecting to get more of the bad as it always seems that’s what’s left.’
While he loves Maltesers, Galaxy and Dairy Milk, he hates being left with Creme Egg, Snickers and Bounty.
He shared a TikTok showing the process of emptying all the contents of the tubs, adding ‘My guess is it’s going to be Milky Way or Mars being the most popular, let’s the count them up’.
Charlie said: ‘I’m a little bit disappointed here because I hate Snickers. Milky Way is lookin quite full, Bounty – absolutely disgusting. Not many caramel and obviously the best one, the goated, the Malteser – that’s about half full.
‘So this is what we’re looking like – I’m gonna count them up now and give you the exact figures’.
From the eight tubs of Celebrations the 28-year-old got his hands on, he discovered that Galaxy and Galaxy Caramel were the least common – there were 46 of each with an average of six per tub.

On the other end of the scale, the chocolates that appeared the most were Snickers, which he found 89 of across the eight tubs – almost double the amount of Galaxy treats.
The second most frequent was Milky Way, with an average of 11 chocolates per tub – 88 in total.
Mars was third, with 87 chocolates across the tubs and an average of 10.875 and in fourth place was Bounty, followed by Maltesers to round off the top five.
He concluded, ‘The whole total was 522 pieces of chocolate, which gives the box an average of 65 sweets per tub. Which is your favoruite? Definitely not Bounty, I’m gonna give that to someone I don’t like for Christmas’.
The tweet quickly gained traction, with other users replying: ‘gotta know these things sometimes’ and ‘Great research. You’d think it would be all equal’.
Someone else advised, ‘Bit of feedback, rank them in ascending order much easier to read/understand the data’.
Meanwhile, another joked: ‘Send me this please….,’ alongside a photo of the tub full of Maltesers.
The video also began racking up views on TikTok, with commenters penning: ‘Gods work’, ‘This is the content I’m here for’ and ‘I would take all bounty and snickers in a heartbeat lol’.

He told his followers, ‘so we’re really doing this then’ and set off to pick up eight more tubs and get to counting.
The content creator told viewers: ‘We’re back and this time we’re counting Heroes. We’re seeing what the average you get per tub is and seeing which is the most common’.
He panned the camera around the tubs and revealed his second lot of results: ‘Starting off with Twirls which was the least common, we’ve got eight large Twirls and 19 little Twirls – totalling 27 with an average of 3.375 per tub.
’49 Creme Eggs in total, averaging 6.125 per tub, we’ve got 50 Fudges and I love Fudges, which works out to an avergae of 6.25 per tub.
‘Interestingly, we had 50 Whispers as well, which again 6.25 per tub. I don’t like Crunchies and we got 52 of those – average of 6.5 per tub.
‘Dairy Milk, the best one on the market, barring Malteser out of the Celebrations, we’ve got 56 of these, averaging seven per tub.
‘Dinky Deckers, I didn’t even know these were in these, but they are obviously – we got 61 of them, averaging 7.625 per tub.
He concluded that there were ’64 sweets in total, which is less than how many were in the Celebrations tub
‘Last but not least we’ve got filling and denture pullers, Eclairs – a whopping 62 Eclairs, avergaing 7.75 per tub.’
He concluded that there were ’64 sweets in total, which is less than how many were in the Celebrations tub.
One viewer demanded: ‘Roses or quality street next, this is content we didn’t know we needed’.
Meanwhile, another added, ‘It’s so strange because this is something nobody thinks about, but it’s also so interesting’.
Others chimed in with: ‘hero’s are sooooo much better than celebrations!!’ and ‘I definitely prefer Heroes I think’.
MailOnline reached out to both Mars and Cadbury’s for a comment on whether they have a specific quota of each sweet per box, but has yet to hear back.
