On the parenting forum Mumsnet, a woman was considering going on holiday without the kids this year and asked other users for advice.
Most people opined that as long as the children have appropriate care, like grandparents who can look after them, it shouldn’t be an issue.
A woman with the username @PumpkinCounty explained that she has been on many holidays without her daughters, and asked: “Why would it be wrong?”
A mother-of-two, @Whynosnowyet, said that she has been going away with her husband regularly since they got married.
“Guilt free!!! Parenting is hard and marriages need nurturing also,” she added. Another one, @ImFreeToDoWhatIWant, agreed and said that it is actually important to have holidays without children.
She explained: “We’re extremely fortunate that grandparents look after our children for a five-six day block every year so we can have a proper short holiday. We stay UK based but it’s invaluable to our mental health and our relationship health!”
Another mum said that she and her husband recently went away for their anniversary and the kids stayed with their grandparents. “No issues at all and we had an amazing time!”
Mumsnet user @TeeniefaeTinseltoon shared her experience and said that she went away without the kids last summer, the children stayed with their grandparents and “everyone had a fab time”.

Another woman explained that she does it all the time but they don’t go on “family aimed holidays and leave them at home,” but “it’s more city breaks”.
“I have zero guilt. They are great for us to be able to spend decent quality time on our relationship and that ultimately means we have a stronger family unit,” she added.
However, not everyone agreed and many mums said that they wouldn’t enjoy a holiday without their children as they are “part of the enjoyment”.

One, with username @Thehop, admitted that she even took the children on their honeymoon. “I can’t imagine going without them and not feeling guilty that they were missing out,” she added.
Another one said: “My favourite part of every holiday is lying on a lounger with a gin in my hand watching my kids having a whale of a time in the pool.”
On the social media platform Reddit, a woman went on a 10-day cruise in Alaska with her husband and “left the kids at home”.
Although it was “a well-deserved vacay,” she admitted that it “was hard towards the end”.
