I ‘ghosted’ a close friend because she was getting too close to my boyfriend – she even started wearing his hoodie
- Kelly, from LA, claims ex friend Joanna overstepped boundaries with boyfriend
- The content creator ditched pal over sandwich gestures and hoodie borrowing
- Joanna responds to refute anything other than a friendship with Kelly’s partner
A US woman has had to take drastic measures to protect her relationship with her boyfriend – by cutting off and ghosting her friend who she has accused of overstepping boundaries.
Kelly Kim, from Los Angeles, US, began spotting ‘red flag behaviour’ from close friend Joanna once she began dating her now-boyfriend, who has not been named.
The couple reportedly met through Joanna’s introductions while on a night out, however, Kelly claims Joanna’s behaviour became suspicious in a video posted to TikTok on November 7.
Posting to her almost 80K followers on her account @kelly_kim_, the content creator uploaded a GWRM (Get ready with me) video while revisiting the ‘break-up’ with her pal, which had taken place over a year ago.
The video, accompanied with the caption “which one was ur fav? the sandwich one is mine,” which then shows Kelly applying make-up while speaking to the camera.

She began: ‘Get ready with me while I talk about the ridiculous things that this girl that claims to be a girl’s girl has done to me.’
Kelly went on to state how she has ‘never’ had to leave a relationship or friendship ‘cold turkey’ and has never endured a ‘friendship break-up,’ but defined her ex friend as an ‘exception.’
She continued: ‘The day that she met my boyfriend, she added him to her “close friends” story and just started posting the random TMIs (too much information) on her stories – like an attention trap.’
‘This was before my boyfriend and I started dating, but, like, everyone knew that we were into each other.
Kelly added: ‘She borrowed my boyfriend’s hoodie when we’re all over at his house, cause she was cold.’
After taking the hoodie home, Kelly claimed that Joanna continued to wear the garment consecutively for two weeks and posted pictures whilst wearing it on social media.
Deciding to overlook Joanna’s behaviour, Kelly then noted how her friend began to ‘show love’ for her boyfriend’s interests, including adopting a likening to clothing brands he would regularly wear.
She said: ‘Never heard this girl brag about how much she likes this brand before, until she met my boyfriend. Spending hours getting ready to see him. Calling up my other friend telling her that she thinks he’s cute.’

Meanwhile, Joanna shared an alternative version of how the situation unfolded, with the scorned friend having to switch off comments due to fans of Kelly leaving abusive messages
The TikTok influencer then poured over the ‘final straw’ in Joanna’s alleged advances, of ‘volunteering’ to wake up early to personally give a sandwich to her boyfriend.
Kelly said: ‘Getting him the sandwich that he mentioned he likes and then volunteering to wake up early so that she can hand the sandwich to him so that he can take it to work.’
Meanwhile her ex friend shared an alternative version of how the situation unfolded, in footage viewed over 8M times by curious viewers keen to understand the full picture.
Joanna Lee, a content creator also from LA, uploaded a video to her 40K following on TikTok account on November 16, with the scorned friend having to switch off her comments due to fans of Kelly leaving abusive messages.
Posting to her account @joannayeonlee, Joanna claimed in the video that Kelly had exaggerated particular details of the story and had ‘villainised’ her for no apparent reason.
Joanna went on to explain how she played ‘cupid’ and set the couple up after meeting the boyfriend during a birthday night out.
Alluding to accusations of setting ‘attention traps’ on close friends stories, Joanna refuted: ‘It’s really not a big deal. If it was attention traps, why would she also be on the close friends? I would only have guys.’
She added: ‘The hoodie I’m just notorious for not giving back hoodies. I just took longer to give this one back because it was really cute.’

Following Joanna’s response to her viral TikTok video, Kelly posted pictures of her boyfriend and ‘the hoodie’ to Twitter to prove that her ex friend was interested romantically in him
Joanna then insisted that the pivotal sandwich was nothing but a goodwill gesture, after Kelly’s boyfriend helped mount her TV on her wall.
She said: ‘Let me show my gratitude in some way. I picked up a sandwich after work and put it in the fridge. We have a sandwich secured for you, come pick it up before work tomorrow so you can eat it before it spoils.
Joanna concluded: ‘She came with him to pick it up. I handed her the sandwich. I would have done this for anyone.’
Mixed reactions were expressed by thousands of viewers in Kelly’s comments, with many condemning Joanna’s behaviour while several individuals believe Kelly was wrong in ending the friendship over nothing.
One person, siding with Kelly, said: ‘I feel like the reason Kelly decided to ghose and not communicate was that she knew Joanna would try to gaslight her.’

Another wrote: ‘POV: You saw Joanna’s video first thought these are red flags then algorithm brings you to Kelly’s truth.’
However, others found the entire situation to be petty, with one viewer writing: ‘The only thing I had an issue with is the hoodie thing. Everything else was ok??’
One individual wrote: ‘It’s crazy people taking sides when it’s so clear both of them are in the wrong in this situation.’
Another said, ‘Not worth ending a friendship over tho, could’ve at least talked,’ while a third wrote, ‘Am I the only one who doesn’t see a problem with any of this?’
In September, MailOnline reported how one girlfriend listed the ten ‘controversial’ rules she and her boyfriend of six years have set in place to ensure a happy and long-lasting relationship.
Gia Aldisert, from Los Angeles, shared her list and sparked debate between those who thought the rules were ‘sensible’ and those who thought they were ‘too strict’.
The rules include not following hot models on Instagram, knowing one another’s phone passwords and not having any best friends of the opposite sex.
