A NEWBORN baby will typically go through 300 nappies a month.
That's a lot of wiping, so you'll need to make sure you've got the best baby wipes for the job.
That said, a packet of Pampers or Huggies will set you back at least £1 each and there's not as many in the pack.
So are there any supermarket alternatives which are cheaper and work just as well?
We asked mum-of-three Lynsey Hope to test some best-sellers when changing youngest daughter Ivy, aged two, to see which were the best.

Lynsey said: "Lovely moist wipes and in my opinion, these are the best you can buy for changing a baby's bottom.
"Ivy has suffered badly with nappy rash at times but these didn't irritate her skin at all.

"They no longer have a plastic lid to the seal the pack but were strong and didn't rip when I was using them."

Pampers Sensitive Baby Wipes (52)

Lynsey said: "Pampers recently made these wipes plastic-free so a huge eco plus.
"They were good for sensitive skin too. However, I found them quite thick, dry and hard to use.
"They felt a bit like they'd been left out in the sun for too long.
"No different to most supermarket value brands and not worth the extra money."

Lidl Lupilu Lightly Fragranced Wipes (64)

Lynsey said: "Lidl's wipes were a surprising win.
"They were bigger in size and though they didn't feel as wet as Huggies or Pampers, they did a good job of helping to mop up baby mess more effectively.
"I probably used more wipes for poop than I did with some of the big brands. But overall, I thought they were good value."

Lynsey said: "These do the job every time and are as good at cleaning poo from babies bottom as they are for wiping dirty faces.
"They are hypoallergenic and made with 99% pure water. I loved how soft and effective were.
"They were both strong and moist.
"Though pricey, I used less wipes than when I was testing cheaper brands so I thought the value for money was good.
"I wish they came in bigger, better value packets."

Asda Little Angels Plastic Free Fragranced Baby Wipes (60)

Lynsey said: "These are really hard to get out of the packet.
"You end up pulling out a load more than you need and then trying to squeeze them back in.
"The wipes are good and do a reasonable job for the price.
"Great that Asda has made them plastic free too, but I was really unimpressed with the packaging."

Essential Waitrose Biodegradable Baby Wipes (80)

Lynsey says: "Great value wipes from Waitrose. They felt super soft and were thick enough so they didn't tear too easily.
"These wipes didn't aggravate Ivy's skin at all. The bigger 80-wipe packet means they last longer, plus they are biodegradable.
"They were virtually identical to the Huggies wipes and the same price – but you get 24 more per pack, making them great value."

Tesco Fred & Flo Biodegradable Fragrance Free Wipes (60)
- 70p (1.17p each)
Lynsey said: "These are quite expensive compared to other supermarket brands and I found them thin and flimsy.
"Probably ok for wiping faces and number ones, but you need something a bit more substantial for wiping up number two's.
"A real plus that they are biodegradable."

Sainsbury's Little Ones Baby Wipes (60)

Lynsey said: "Sainsbury's are currently price-matching Aldi on baby wipes, but which are best? I'm sorry to say it's not Little Ones wipes.
"These were pretty useless at cleaning up sticky baby poop. They're a great price but not really up to the more difficult jobs!"
