The first thing to avoid when renovating is a spiral kitchen tap, the experts say.
While they may look ‘great and professional’, the cleaning experts say the spiral fills with dust and dirt.
A tip to get into those hard-to-reach areas is to use a toothbrush in between the spirals – and make sure to get a limescale spray.
Instead the experts say you should opt for a simpler style of pull-out tap, so you can still aim the water around the sink but without the hassle of cleaning in between spirals.

While a full wall-sized mirror in the bathroom can look stylish, the cleaners say you should avoid having a mirror directly behind the tap.
The mirror will catch ‘all the splashes’, such as from brushing your teeth or washing your hands, leaving you cleaning the mirror constantly to keep it looking pristine.
If you are considering adding a long drain insert to your shower, the advice is that you probably shouldn’t.
While the drains can be more stylish than an ordinary plughole, the cleaning experts say they collect hair really quickly, meaning you will regularly have the grim job of pulling it all out.
As well as this, shower drain inserts can give off a rather unpleasant smell if they are not cleaned often, due to a build up of dirt and grime.

Industrial-style steel countertops in your kitchen can look ultra-professional and make you feel like a real chef.
But if you’re not willing to polish them constantly, they could be left looking dull rather than sparkling.
The cleaning experts say its best to keep these worktops to commerical kitchens, and instead opt for stone as it doesn’t stain much, isn’t prone to scratches and is easy to clean.
The last thing the cleaners suggest you avoid is a an open plan kitchen extractor fan.
As they are often oddly shaped it can be hard to reach the top of it to clean, and they can colelct grease and dust. The experts suggest you get a built-in extractor fan if buying a new kitchen.
