Rebecca Hatton, 25, has been praised online after sharing how she wanted to improve her self-confidence and mental well-being by using simple steps – and says the real transformation ‘starts within.’
The law student has been left shocked by the supportive response from fellow TikTok users after she posted a video series detailing what new habits she embodied that made a positive impact on her life.
In her initial video, the Pennsylvania native, who was ‘depressed and insecure,’ first shows herself with a bloated, puffy face; skin breaking out and hair unkept.

Meanwhile the difference in the ‘after’ photo is staggering – and she says it is all thanks to her mental health changes.
‘My “glow-up” journey did not start out as a means to become more beautiful (by society’s standards),’ Rebecca said.
‘[It was a result of] the plans I had for my life were falling through [during the pandemic].
‘And I was exhausted from a lifetime of battling health issues, a poor relationship with food and feeling insecure about acne on my face because of the health issues no doctor seemed to be able to figure out.
‘It felt like everything was crumbling around me.
‘[Now] I walk as a more confident person, not because my teeth are whiter or my hair is healthier but because I have done the work to heal my relationship with myself and how I view myself.
‘I prioritize taking care of myself now because I know I am worth being cared for.’
To help others who are looking to shake-up their life, Rebecca shared her key tips for a ‘glow-up.’
1. Put your mental health first: Rebecca makes sure to get her body moving every day and prioritizes sleep
She focuses on lowering her cortisol levels which is the body’s stress hormone. She now prioritizes sleep, deep breathing and long walks outside

While the student has some beauty tips to share, her most important piece of advice is to focus on your mental well-being first – and go from there.
‘I would say my top tips are to focus on your mental health first and foremost. Go outside! Take yourself on walks,’ she said.
Regardless of the weather she takes a ‘mental health walk every day’ even if its just five minutes in her neighborhood.
‘See a counsellor if you need to! I think our physical outward appearance is a reflection of inward healing,’ Rebecca said.
‘Start with small habit changes like making your bed, walking outside every day, journaling, etc, and I am convinced the rest will begin to follow.’

Rebecca switched from her high-intensity workouts to yoga and Pilates, goes on walks for fresh air when she gets stressed, prioritizes sleep and practices deep breathing.
Yoga has not only made her more flexible and relaxed, but it’s also changed her body and taught her to slow down.
When it comes to mental health regarding your career, pursuing something that you’re passionate about will make all the difference.
Attending law school was a change in direction for her, but she was very drawn to ‘advocating for victims of sexual assault.’
2. Cycle syncing and gua sha: Rebecca organizes her schedule around her period and sculpts her face
Since she has PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) she does cycle synching, which is organizing your daily routines, diet and workouts around the phases of your menstrual cycle
She also uses tretinoin cream and gets regular facials to heal acne scars
Part of Rebecca’s improvement method is having a daily beauty routine.
For her, this means starting the day by using rosehip oil with a gua sha stone on her face every morning that helps sculpt her facial features.

In one of her videos she admits that as someone who has PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), cycle synching helped her tremendously on her skin journey.

3. Get your teeth and hair to shine: Dip your toothbrush in whitening mouthwash and ditch drugstore products

The day before she washes her hair she puts rosemary oil on her scalp and goes for a slicked back braid in order to grow ‘healthier, shinier and thicker hair,’ which she finds ‘hot.’

She argues that if you wear something you’re not comfortable in ‘even if its a cute fit, you won’t feel like yourself and it’ll show.’

She focuses on what makes her feel good. Even when Rebecca wears her matching pajamas set to bed she feels more ‘put together’ and it helps her go to bed ‘relaxed.’
Rebecca recommends doing a wardrobe clear-out and getting rid of items you don’t wear or selling them online and using the money to buy new clothes.

Being that she’s a minority as a woman in her male-dominated law school, she tells herself every single day that she ‘belongs’ and ‘has a seat there even if they [men] don’t chose to acknowledge it.’
She puts her energy into how she feels about herself instead of seeking outside validation.
6. Cut out alcohol and sugar: Rebecca says this helped clear her skin as well as debloat her face and stomach
Rebecca has given up alcohol and limits her sugar intake, which she admits is still a challenge sometimes.
‘This has been one of the hardest parts,’ she said.
‘My doctor recommended cutting these things out to alleviate some of the symptoms of my health issues.
‘I had already cut out gluten and dairy years before so this felt brutal at first because it felt like I had no foods left to enjoy.
‘I love sweet treats and I love making cocktails.
‘I don’t do this perfectly, and will still have a drink or gluten/dairy-free treat every once in a while but I try really hard to prioritize what makes my body feel good.
‘Results I have seen from this are astounding.’

‘Everyone has been kind too, there have been no trolls thankfully.
‘[My favorite comments] speak to the hard work I’ve done to heal things on the inside and the fact that those changes really do then reflect on the outside.
‘I want people to see joy in me. I want them to see a healed person because that’s the work I’ve really put in. And that’s the work that matters most.
‘My final advice is: everyone is different – what works for me is not going to be the fix-all for you.’
