I'm worried I'll never be the same again after the death of my father | The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: THE day my dad died my heart broke into a million pieces. He was my best friend and I had never imagined life without him.

I’m his 45-year-old son and he was 79.

In the last few years, he experienced health issues and grew frail.

I cooked him dinners, did his shopping, took him to hospital appointments, and even managed his money.

For the most part, my brothers didn’t give it a second thought, so I was left to do it all alone.

When he died I fell apart. I couldn’t handle the reality.

Ever since I have been struggling to cope. I can’t eat or sleep and I’m finding it hard to function.

It hurts to see my siblings cry and seek sympathy over his death.

I’m worried life will never be the same.

DEIDRE SAYS: It’s understandable that you’re heartbroken. He clearly meant the world to you.

Coming to terms with any loss will take time, but focusing on the good times you shared will help.

Although nothing will ever replace him, in time you can find joy in your life again.

Feeling angry towards your family at this time is perfectly normal, but try not to let it consume you.

It would be best if you got some professional bereavement counselling, which you can arrange via the Good Grief Trust (thegoodgrieftrust.org).
