Incredible photos show thousands descending on Whitby for Goth Weekend

Every year, thousands of people descend on a small seaside town in gothic-inspired outfits.

Whitby Goth Weekend – which has been running since the 1990s – attracts people from all over the country who want to show off their goth gear with like-minded individuals.

This year the event is running from Friday October 28 until Sunday October 30 and visitors can enjoy live music and a market – with stalls selling clothes, gifts and gothic goods.

Whitby is the perfect location for the unique goth gathering with its old Abbey and large graveyard – not to mention, the town’s links to Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula.

For the Whitby Goth Weekend people take to the streets dressed in their gothic finery, with many drawing inspiration from Victorian and Edwardian times – as well as incorporating Siouxsie Sioux-style makeup and hair (the 1980s trad-goth look).

The celebration, which is on twice a year, brings together a community of goths, Victorian vampires, punks, rockers and members of other subcultures.

The result? Some incredible, eye-catching outfits that celebrate gothic culture.

We’ve rounded up some of our favourites from this year. Also, don’t forget to check out some of the best looks from last year.
