With the latest series ofLove Island underway, a new crop of contestants have enteredthe new Majorcan villa in an attempt to find love.
And while cameras may have been rolling for less than a week, it takes a lot longer to prepare for the show, according to former contestantRosie Williams.
Rosie, 30, rose to fame when she appeared as a bombshell in the 2018 series and quickly won over fellow Islander Adam Collard.
After spending over two weeks coupled up together,Rosie had her heart broken when Adam’s head was turned by newcomer Zara McDermott.
Despite showing Adam what he was missingwith a raunchy photoshoot with Megan Barton Hanson, Rosie was dumped from the villa on day 20.
Here, she tells OK! how she got Love Island ready…
“I applied for the show at the end of April and within 24 hours the producers were on the phone to me, telling me that they were interested in my application.
As soon as I heard that they were interested, it dawned on me that this wasn’t just a bit of fun – I might actually appear on the show. I needed to prepare myself for that possibility.
From then on, everything I did was with Love Island in mind.
The first thing I did was amp up my exercise routine and start going to the gym every day. I also started to eat better so that I wouldn’t feel bloated if I entered the villa.
At the beginning of May, I was 80% sure that I’d be appearing on the show. I started to do some shopping and began figuring out what beauty prep I needed getting done if I was going to be away for eight weeks.
I immediately thought of previous holidays I’d been on where I’d found shaving every day really annoying. I knew I didn’t want that to happen while I was on the show.
I bought a portable laser hair removal machine, which is strange because I’d never thought about laser hair removal before.
I ended up using it every day in the run up because I was so keen to not need to shave while in the villa. Luckily it worked and while other girls in the villa were struggling with shaving rashes, I didn’t have any worries.
At this point I still didn't know if I'd been picked, but I still made a visit to my local aesthetic clinic to get my lip filler topped up. I thought it was better to get this done even before anything had been confirmed by the producers as I'd need some time for my lips to settle down. I didn’t want to risk going on Love Island with any bruising or swelling.
I was constantly visiting the Manchester’s shopping centres and doing multiple clothes orders each week to find the perfect bikinis and outfits for the show. I have a whole collection of pictures on my phone of mirror selfies I’d taken while asking my sister for her opinion.
When it came to packing, I was only allowed to bring one suitcase but I convinced the producers to let me bring two as I just couldn’t choose my outfits. I ended up sharing my clothes with the girls in the villa. The show's sponsors, Missguided, sent us a bag of clothes every so often to freshen up our looks, too.

I was living in Manchester with my cousins at the time and they didn’t know I'd applied to be on the show so they got a bit suspicious about my behaviour. It was hard to hide the fact that I’d bought a whole new wardrobe, was ironing all the time and had suitcases laid around the house, ready to go if I got the call to go. Still, they didn’t ask too many questions.
It was hard to hide from my friends, however, and I withdrew from social situations. I thought it was best not to speak to anybody for four weeks because that way people couldn’t ask me why I was rushing around or why I’d left my job!
By mid-May I finally knew I’d be flying out to Majorca to appear on the show in June – that’s when I rushed to get the rest of my beauty treatments booked in. I spent the time I had left getting pre-bonded hair extensions, having semi-permanent eyelashes applied and getting my nails done.
Annoyingly one of my nails broke while I was waiting in Majorca to go go on the show and I was left with an incomplete set, but my chaperone let me get my nails done just hours before I was due to enter the villa.
By now, my name was out in public, so I went to a salon with curlers in my hair and sunglasses on in an attempt to keep things discreet. Obviously it wasn’t very subtle but I managed to get my nails redone unnoticed.

I must’ve spent up to £2,000 getting ready for Love Island. My hair extensions were £500 alone, so that was where most of the money went.
Dealing with the cost wasn’t much of an issue as I had been working as a solicitor and was able to cover everything by being careful with my salary. However, I do wonder how other contestants are able to cover the costs, as I assume they spend a similar amount.
Looking back, there are some things I regret doing, like ordering a huge haul of fake eyelashes specially for the programme as my makeup looked way too heavy on camera.
I also remember the producers coming in to the villa to tell us that they could see our hair extensions. I had doubled up with mine, so I would always add clip-ins, and I think that’s what was showing. I’m sure I got teased about it.
While the preparation I did was intense, you can never be fully prepared for going into the villa. I decided to do all of this prep because I feel my best when I’ve got my nails done, like my outfit and when I’ve been to the gym.
I was also conscious that I was on TV and that people were going to be watching my every move.
I’d watched Love Island in the past, so I knew that viewers would sometimes judge contestants and I felt pressured to look my best. However, as soon as I entered the villa my routine went out the window and I ended up eating ham and cheese toasties made by Wes every night, so in the end it didn’t really matter anyway!"
Love Island continues every night at 9pm on ITV2.
