William and Kate have been touring the UK since becoming the Prince and Princess of Wales, and their latest trip was to Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland, on Thursday, October 6. The couple were seen meeting with and speaking to crowds in the capital, but some were less happy than others about their presences.
The royal couple were heckled while they spoke to crowds, and most notably by a woman who said: “Nice to meet you but it would be better if it was when you were in your own country.
“Ireland belongs to the Irish.”
This was directed at Kate, but the Princess just smiled and moved on to the next person in the crowd.
Despite seeming to handle the hecklers with grace, the Prince and Princess of Wales looked a little nervous in Northern Ireland, according to body language expert Judi James. Evidently aware of the country’s political environment, the couple were more “cautious” during their visit.
Judi told Express.co.uk: “Kate handled the heckler who grabbed her hand with confidence and charm last week, but William and Kate’s body language generally here suggests a more cautious and polite approach rather than one suggesting an assumption of popularity with everyone.
“Their body language suggests empathy and an ability to switch styles depending on their audience and their circumstances, which could be called a tactful approach and one that suggests they learned valuable lessons from their Commonwealth tour.”
The body language expert continued: “William has adopted a more submissive pose here, miming a rather modest tie-checking ritual, while Kate has her hands close to her stomach in a partial barrier, as well as one hand on her face in one pose as she smiles and eye-greets her audience.
“Kate also touches her hair in a gesture that suggests she might feel slightly anxious.”
Judi added that although William and Kate have seemed mostly confident when meeting the public since the Queen’s death, the visit to Northern Ireland was slightly different due to politics.
She said: “The couple’s confidence and enjoyment signals have increased enormously since the period of mourning ended but they also look finely-tuned to any possible dissent or disagreement during their visits and able to drop back a gear or two when necessary.”
As part of their visit last week, William and Kate stopped off at the suicide prevention charity PIPS in north Belfast, where they spoke to staff about their work.
The Princess of Wales looked stunning in all-blue ensemble, donning a baby blue coat with a matching blouse featuring a pussy bow.
Kate’s coat was by iconic fashion designer Alexander McQueen, one of her favourite designers.
Famously, Sarah Burton, the current designer behind McQueen, created Kate’s 2011 wedding dress.
Kate’s pale blue blouse was by Winser London, and she paired it with a pair of straight-leg navy blue trousers.
She completed the look with a pair of navy suede pumps by Gianvito Rossi.
In her hands, she carried a small leather bag by DeMellier, a London-based designer that crafts its bags in Spain.
For her accessories, Kate kept her look minimalist with a pair of gold and pink earrings by royal favourite jewellery brand, Missoma.
The Princess’ hair was styled in natural waves and she wore her usual, minimal make-up look of lashings of black mascara, brown eyeshadow, and a slick of coral-coloured lipstick.
Meanwhile, William wore a bright blue jumper with a thick, dark blue blazer over it.
