Kelly Brook says food is her ‘comfort blanket’ but is learning to be kinder to herself

Model turned radio presenterKelly Brookhas always been open and honest about her journey with her weight and will soon be celebrating one thousand days of healthy weight management.

And the star credits her long term beau Jeremy Parisi for being a support to her during her health journey.

Though, she believes that one of the biggest challenges when it comes to maintaining a healthy body is being kind to herself and spoke to OK! about what this means to her and how asupportive partnerhas been key.

Kelly said: “I think healthy body [means] healthy mind – the two go hand in hand. I think my journey has really been not just physical but also mental as well.

“Just trying to be kind to myself, eating well, making time for myself. I think that the biggest journey for me is learning to be kinder to myself and putting myself first.”

Putting oneself first can look different for everyone but for the model it means being more certain in her lifestyle choices – even if it can look different to those of boyfriend Jeremy’s.

“I always say to my partner what do you want for dinner. I don’t say to him, ‘Oh I want a chicken salad tonight, what do you want?’.

“I’m quite a codependent person like that so everything I do I want to share with him but if he fancies a takeaway one day and I don't, it's about going ‘Well that’s not going to help me’.”

Though she admits that these issues don’t crop up as much: “I’m really grateful that I’ve got a healthy partner. if I fancy a glass of wine and he doesn’t he won’t always have one.

“I think you just have to have your own journey and it's your body and what’s best for you – it’s not just following what everyone else is doing. It’s about being a bit selfish and putting yourself first because if you’re not healthy and well, then nothing around you can work anyway.”

Kelly’s latest range for SlimFast is made up of traditional restaurant meals, but with a healthy twist and Kelly admitted that during lockdown all of the weight she’d originally lost crept back on, so finding ways to maintain it were key.

For Kelly, food is an “emotional crutch” so turning to eating through “trauma” was a “huge comfort blanket” for herself.

She explained: “For me I think food is such an emotional crutch. Some people were doing gym workouts and there’s me online ordering a pizza maker and an ice cream maker.

“It’s so funny when you’re going through trauma what you do. Actually food for me is a huge comfort blanket.”

Though her Heart radio gig and being out and about has made her more “conscious” of how she looks.

She added: "I think my lifestyle’s changed a lot but I think food and exercise for me is not just about how I look, it's about your mental health and it's about feeling confident."
