A woman who runs a boutique laundry service has shared the five things everyone should have in their home laundry – and why white vinegar is her ‘secret sauce’ to brighter, softer linen.
Amelia, who goes by Amelia’s Home Edit on TikTok, shared a video in which she said these are the pieces that make doing the laundry at home quick and easy.
Amelia explained that after doing ‘hundreds and hundreds of loads of laundry’ for families over the years, she has learned a lot ‘about what works and what doesn’t’.

‘I’ve worked out a really effective and really efficient laundry system for my home laundry after having learned so much running my boutique laundry service here in Queensland,’ Amelia said in the clip.
‘These are the five things that I have that I think are amazing for you.’
The first item Amelia highlighted as ‘extremely useful’ is a rail system that is hung from the ceiling next to her machines.
‘As soon as the pieces come out of the machine, even out of the dryer, I hang everything up,’ she said.
‘Not only does it mean that it starts drying right away, but the things that come out of the dryer that get hung up are still hot, which means they need less pressing or ironing.’
The second gadget Amelia loves at home is a water dispenser from Amazon.
She hooks this up to her laundry detergent with a pipe and puts the laundry detergent out of sight.
‘This means I don’t have the clutter of the detergent on my beautiful bench and it’s really good at dosing out a small amount so you don’t get tempted to put in too much detergent,’ Amelia said.

The third item Amelia swears by is a rail on wheels.
Once everything is out of the laundry and it has been on the initial rail, it moves onto the rail on wheels on hangers.
Then, that gets ‘moved all the way around the house to be put away’.
Fourth on Amelia’s list was laundry hampers, which she bought from Kmart but which have since been discontinued.
‘They were great. They were really massive, they are on wheels and they are really inexpensive,’ she said.
‘All of the laundry that doesn’t get hung up like sheets and towels goes into one and then it gets wheeled around the house,’ she said.
‘Kmart have stopped selling them and I’m on a mission to get them selling them again.’

Finally, the homeowner said everyone needs white vinegar in their laundry room, and she couldn’t run either her home or commercial laundry without it.
‘It’s cheap and effective. It’s my secret sauce,’ Amelia said in another video.
‘If you use it with your towels, it will act like a fabric softener. Popping it in with your colours will lighten and brighten them.’
She added: ‘You can use it with your normal laundry and it will act like a detox stripping away the build up of the detergent you’re using’.
Why white vinegar works so well in laundry
* As a stain remover, vinegar is effective at treating low pH stains like tea, fruit juice, wine, and beer. To use it, soak the stained item for 30 minutes up to overnight in a solution of white vinegar and one tablespoon of liquid laundry detergent prior to laundering.
* Distilled white vinegar is also a powerful agent for removing mould or mildew from fabrics.
* Vinegar is also excellent at removing product buildup that can trap odour-causing bacteria, causing freshly laundered items to come out of the wash smelling less than clean.
* It also has natural fabric-softening properties.
