This year the brand is selling two colour variations of the sneakers, with shoppers having the choice of either a solid blue or white canvas.
When the shoes dropped in Europe two years ago, it sent shoppers wild as they rushed to the discount store to snatch their pair, and British fans spent as much as £3,100 on bundles of the merchandise from sellers on eBay.
Shoppers were sent into a frenzy over the trainers when they first hit European stores, with people queuing up at their local Lidl in hopes to get a pair.
People were even queuing in Finland, where a customer told The Nomad Today: ‘Everyone lined up normally. At exactly 8am they ran to the shop and the sneakers’ shelf emptied in less than 10 seconds.’
At the time, the brand described the trainers as a ‘must-have for any Lidl-loving fan, or followers of the latest trainer trends, saying ‘their classic retro style makes them the perfect pop of colour for any look’.
After the shoes and their accessories hit the shelves, savvy shoppers started selling them online for more than 110 times the original price, with UK shoppers going wild over the shoes, which were not available in the UK yet.
One person even listed the extravagant trainers on Finnish auction site Tori for £5,400 at the time.
