Lil Baby’s concert in Memphis on Sept. 7 was cut short after someone in the audience of the FedExForum was shot and injured.
Memphis Police arrived on the scene at around 10:23 p.m. that night while the victim was taken to Regional One Health Hospital in critical condition, according to a statement posted by the Department on X (formerly known as Twitter). Per that update, the identity of the shooter is currently unknown.
In fan-captured footage of the concert, it appears that the altercation occurred while Lil Baby and Rylo Rodriguez were performing, though both quickly retreated backstage after recognizing a shot had been fired. Videos also show a male victim being wheeled out of the venue on a stretcher.
Variety has reached out to Lil Baby’s representatives for comment.
Memphis rapper Glorilla was also scheduled to make an appearance at the show, one of numerous dates for Lil Baby’s “It’s Only Us” tour which kicked off earlier this July. It is set to conclude on Sept. 22 at the FLA Live Arena in Ft. Lauderdale.
In 2020, Lil Baby’s concert in Birmingham, Ala. was also halted after gunfire broke out on the side of the stage, sending the rapper and the audience running for cover. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Lil Baby has been one of the biggest breakout stars of the last five years, with much of that heat centered around his pandemic-era release “My Turn,” a blockbuster that spent five weeks at No. 1, was certified four-times platinum and ended up being the most consumed album of 2020. His solo follow-up album, “It’s Only Me,” did not generate a similar stream of hit singles, but it debuted at No. 1 last fall on its way to being certified platinum.
