Dressed for success – and failure: Liz Truss donned the SAME £225 navy dress from London based designer The Fold to start and end her 45 days as Prime Minister
- Outgoing prime minister wore the same navy blue dress on her first day in job
- The colour navy blue is meant to signal power, authority and confidence
- Liz Truss wore the same Arlington Dress while delivering her resignation speech
It has long been said that the colour of navy blue represents power and authority – which has perhaps been reflected in the dress of many female leaders over time.
For outgoing prime minister Liz Truss, it may not have been an accident that she chose to wear a £225 navy dress from The Fold to officially be confirmed as prime minister when she met the late Queen in Balmoral last month.
On 6 September Truss curtseyed and shook the hand of the monarch, who was swearing in the 15th prime minister of her reign.

Later that afternoon, Truss donned the jersey Arlington Dress from the London-based designer as she spoke to the nation in a televised address from outside no. 10 Downing Street.
The midi dress, which has a v-neckline and is clinched at the waist with a wrap effect, allowed the prime minister to cut a striking, authoritative figure as she spoke of economic growth to come out of turbulent times.
Truss accessorised the smart navy dress with a gold chain which has an oval pendant – a necklace she is also frequently spotted wearing.
The Fold describes the Arlington Dress as ‘the ultimate wear-anywhere dress’.
Its product description reads: ‘There’s no need to sacrifice style or comfort with the navy Arlington dress.

‘Cut from a recycled fibre blend, this luxurious jersey dress is soft to the touch and offers plenty of sculpting stretch.
‘Designed with the strategic drapes and folds that define our brand and flatter your figure, the three-quarter sleeve dress has a wrap waist and peplum detail.
‘A raised V-neck and lining through the body ensure a flawless finish.’
Today, after weeks of turmoil in the UK economy and the prime minister’s own party, she made the decision to resign, speaking once again at a lectern placed outside 10 Downing Street.
Perhaps making a statement, Truss wore the same navy blue dress to announce the end of her turbulent 45-day premiership, during which she oversaw a national period of mourning following the death of Queen Elizabeth II and faced scrutiny for an economic plan that was blamed for causing financial instability.
Alongside power and authority, navy blue is also said to invoke confidence, which perhaps suggests the outgoing prime minister wanted to project an image of stability in her resignation speech.
