Love Island’s ‘upside down’ bikini look is trending – but would you wear this daring style?

There’s nothing quite like a Love Island-inspired trend, and the latest one to come out of the villa gives us a whole new way to wear a bikini.

While you might be forgiven for thinking there’s only one way to put on a bikini top, the girls of Love Island 2023 are proving everyone wrong by coming up with new and creative ways to restyle the simple triangle top. First made popular in last year's series when Antigoni Buxton was spotted wearing a turquoise bikini top upside down, this style has since been spotted on contestants in the villa this year including Tanya Manhenga and Jessie Winters, not to mention being donned by the Kardashian-Jenners last Summer.

Although it may not be immediately obvious, the upside down bikini trend actually makes your simple two piece a lot more versatile, and, according to Antigoni, a lot more flattering. Last year's Love Island contestant said: “It gives the opportunity to show a bit of cheeky underboob. A bit of under-boob with a bit of a tan line looks kind of hot.” She also adds: “It lifts my boobs and makes them look a lot nicer.”

Although you can try the trend yourself with just about any regular triangle bikini top, brands have jumped at the chance to expand on the trend, with plenty of brands making bikini tops designed to look upside down, or with extra long strings that allows you to style it in a whole range of different ways.

This year, Love Islanders have continued to find new ways to wear the trend, with Tanya rocking a colourful swirl pattern bikini whilst Jessie wore hers by crossing the long straps around her stomach to create a dramatic strappy style. If you don’t feel like DIY-ing the trend though, you can shop plenty of different styles to get the look yourself ready for your next holiday.
