Major bakery chain and Greggs rival with 107 stores to open new shops within weeks – is one coming near you? | The Sun

A MAJOR bakery chain with 107 stores is opening in nine new locations this year.

Wenzel's the Bakers will start opening the new stores from this month as part of a huge expansion plan, the Sun can reveal.

The bakery chain was founded in 1975 in London, but has now taken over high streets across the South East and Midlands with a total of 107 stores employing around 1,300 staff.

It offers a range of freshly baked bread, sweet and savoury pastries, cakes, sandwiches and hot drinks.

The new stores will expand its reach into the South West of England and it plans to be nationwide by the end of 2024, the Sun understands.

The new locations set to get Wenzel's branches before the end of the year are:

Wenzel's offers a particularly generous selection of cake slices compared to other bakeries for as little as £1.

The chain also sells hot and cold food bags via food waste prevention app Too Good To Go, which can be picked up at the end of the day.

Hot bags sell for £4.75 while cold food bags cost £3.95, and each bag contains roughly £12 worth of items, according to the app.

Shoppers say this is better value than bags at rival bakery chain Greggs, which come in cheaper at £2.59 but only contain around £8 worth of items.

Wenzel's isn't the only bakery expanding, as we recently revealed Patisserie Valerie is finally reopening branches after closing the majority of its stores over the last few years.

Greggs is also continuing to expand this year as part of a plan to open a net total of 150 branches in 2023.
