Megan Fox shows off mid-length auburn hair makeover as she ditches signature look

It really is the season of the dramatic hair transformation, and Megan Fox is the latest celebrity to make a bold change, as she wowed fans by ditching her long dark locks in favour of a beautiful copper red colour for the Vanity Fair Oscars after party.

The actress is known for her trademark jet black waves, although she’s no stranger to changing things up with a wig or two. She’d previously tested out being a red head with some auburn-toned wigs, but this time the 36 year old has taken the plunge and gone for the dramatic colour change for real.

Megan debuted the fiery new hair colour as she attended the Vanity Fair Oscars after party on Sunday night. Megan, who was wearing a Miss Sohee black velvet dress with a plunging neckline and diamond necklace, showed off the new colour and a new shorter cut, as she posed for photographs.

The bold transformation happened courtesy of colouristJacob Schwartz, who is also behind Margot Robbie’s perfect natural-looking blonde. Jacob shared exactly how he managed to get Megan’s hair from jet black to the beautiful, even copper tone with minimal damage and no awkward in-between stage like most people have to endure when lifting dark hair colour.

Although trying to do any sort of drastic hair transformation is usually best left to a professional colourist, the products Jacob used are all available to buy online. So, if you’re well practiced at hair colouring, or you just want to know what to ask your hairdresser for, Jacob broke down each stage of the transformation for his Instagram followers.

Megan’s beautiful, vibrant auburn colour was achieved using Redken products, with Jacob starting by bleaching Megan’s black hair in foils using Redken flashlift,£20 here, and 20 volume developer, like this Redken one,£11 here. He then rinsed out the bleach, before bleaching her roots for 10 minutes using 10 volume developer,£11 here, before rinsing it out.

To achieve her new auburn locks, Jacob used Redken’s colour gel oils in shades 6g and 7cc mixed with 10 volume developed on her roots, and combined the shades 7g and 7cc with 15 volume developed to colour her ends. Although the colour gel oils are stocked on the UK-based site Sally Beauty,£20 here, the exact shades used for Megan’s colour aren’t available, although there are some very close alternative shades to choose from.

After processing for 20 minutes, the finished result is a stunning copper shade that suits Megan's skin tone perfectly, with a darker root and lighter ends for a more natural look. To get her new locks ready for the Vanity Fair after party, celebrity extensionistPriscilla Vallesadded some extensions to add thickness to the actress’ hair, whilst stylistDimitris Hairstyled it into loose, natural looking waves for some effortless glamour.
