Midwife gobsmacked as couple give newborn son awkwardly spelt baby name

Choosing baby names comes with a lot of pressure and can take a lot of time.

Finding a name itself is hard, then comes the part when you decide on a spelling for the little one.

Now one couple caused a debate online after a Reddit user shared their awkward mistake when naming their baby.

Posting on the forum, the user revealed their old classmate's mum, a former midwife, was left baffled by the choice.

The couple planned to name their son Colin, but wanted to spell it differently to make it more unique.

They wrote: "The couple spelled it out for her to put on the birth certificate C-O-L-O-N.

"They tried to name their son colon, as in, the organ attached to your anus."

The midwife was left having to explain the word already meant something and wasn't a good name for a child.

And when the woman explained it to them, they were painfully embarrassed.

Eventually, the midwife convinced them to spell it the normal way, lucky enough for the baby.

The user added: "I do not understand why parents do this.

"It doesn't make a boring name more interesting all it does is set your child up for lifelong inconvenience."

The post racked up a lot of attention as one said: "I went to school with a Colon. It was… Not great for him."
